How have Liverpool gone and unearthed prime Maicon then? Some half from big Ronald Araujo.

The card system feels broken when you see that Rogers challenge and think how can it possibly be the first Gravenberch yellow

Andoni Iraola on Florian Wirtz: “I’m delighted with Florian. His performances over the last three matches have been very good, and I hope this is the beginning of him finding his confidence again. We believe in him a great deal. “People tend to judge him in terms of goals and assists. That isn’t going to be his greatest strength. He’s not a number 10 or a second striker who’s going to score 15 goals this season. If he can help us with goals, that’s even better. But he gives us a great deal of control over matches. “He’s probably felt more comfortable in Champions League matches. In the Premier League, he still needs to get used to the duels. It’s true that he’s already been here for a year, but he’s still adapting. “In terms of his talent, I have absolutely no doubts. And I have no doubts about his attitude either. He’s a player who works incredibly hard. “His body language can seem a little cold. People might think he’s not involved or doesn’t care, when in reality, now that I know him better, I can see how much he loves football and how much he cares. “He is involved and committed, but he doesn’t communicate that externally in the same way as some other players. I think that can work against Florian a little.” #LFC

Think it’s becoming clear what this LFC squad needs next: 1) Replacements for Alisson/Gomez/VVD if they go: Brughmans/Mamardashvili might be the answer for GK but we’ll see. At CB, give VVD a new deal. Would be tempted to buy Araujo as things stand. Ndukwe another option.

3) Replacement for Mac Allister if he goes: Could be Camara. Lots of Alex Scott talk but huge price tag and Camara may be a better fit profile wise.

4) Natural RW: still a good chance Gakpo moves on next year, so there should be a vacancy. Left footed RW would bring balance. May also look to add a new No. 10 or 9. Wright a prospect. New signings N’Guessan/Martinez could be ones for the future.

Thought Jacquet, Munoz and Mac Allister were the standouts today but loads of good performances. Wirtz and Barcola had good moments. Both get assists. Isak lethal again. Would like to see Jacquet and Isak rested Tuesday. And both wingers rotated if Gakpo is fit.

Nine chances created from Florian Wirtz v Brentford (all from open play). No Liverpool player on record (from 2003-04) has ever created more in a single Premier League game. #LFC

Get in. Huge 3 points. What a player Victor Munoz is.

Liverpool pretty unfortunate to be behind there. Munoz and Jacquet continue to impress. Subs will be key here.

Think this is a sign that we have some injured players returning today…
The starting XI for #LFCU21s as they take on Reading in PL2 action 💪

2 of Chambers, McConnell, Danns, Wright, Lucky, Sonni-Lambie would have been on first team bench today if Szoboszlai, Gakpo and Isak were all still out.

Unless there’s 2 keepers on the bench, which can’t be ruled out with rumours Alisson may have an issue.

This is Antoine Semenyo hitting the second fastest speed of the season against Liverpool - 35.74 km/h. What’s really interesting about the clip is that Virgil Van Dijk - the chasing defender - hits 34.94 km/h on the same recovery sprint. And wins the challenge. He’s 35 years old.

- No fit natural RB - Szobo/Grav given new contracts but can’t play together - No natural RW - A £100m+ No. 10 who doesn’t suit the PL - Isak injured - Leoni, Bradley, Ekitike out long-term It’s a tricky squad Iraola has been given. Started well in the circumstances.
Liverpool will be fine this season. With the injuries we’ve got, and with it still being early days for Iraola, these next couple of months will be tricky at times. May not be pretty but got to find ways of getting results. Bournemouth a good example…

But I’d expect this team to get better with time. Key players to return from injury and more time to adjust to Iraola’s methods. They already look a much better unit than last season and should only get better.

On Florian Wirtz - no coincidence that his two best performances this season have come in the CL. I think his main issue is the man-to-man chaos of the Premier League, as @DistanceCovered keeps saying. Good tonight, but doubt he’ll get nearly as much joy at Brentford.

There’s an element of irony about the fact that Elliot Anderson doesn’t get booked for clearly pulling Ryan Gravenberch’s shirt minutes before the latter is sent off.
