Safe pick ✅ - Family loyalty and military duty The Terminal List (2022) - Season 1 & 2 Verdict: Not woke (18%) Streaming on: Prime Video Navy SEAL Commander James Reece investigates a deadly attack on his platoon. Outside the military chain of command, he uses nearly twenty years of combat training to hunt down those responsible. The woke concerns are limited, though some come from the people behind the show. Director and executive producer Antoine Fuqua has promoted casting women and actors of color in roles usually given to white men. Casting director Mary Vernieu has backed representation and diverse role models, while director Ellen Kuras has supported greater visibility for women cinematographers. On screen, women hold defense leadership and combat roles, including a defense secretary and a former Army combat pilot, but identity does not drive the story. There is also a race swap: Constance Wu plays reporter Katie Buranek, a white Czech character in the books, as Asian American. Some conservative viewers and book fans called that forced diversity, and one review site called it DEI while still recommending the show. Those concerns stay small beside Reece's family bonds, loyalty to fellow soldiers, and military duty, with no activist dialogue or broad attack on Western culture. Viewers rate it highly, with 7.9/10 on IMDb and a 94% Rotten Tomatoes audience score. Critics are much less impressed at 42% (😂). Read the full review on our site. Link in bio.
