NEW: On Friday, dockworkers at 111 ports in 22 countries and regions on five continents will stop work in a coordinated strike against war, according to the most recent information from the organizing unions.
More than 25 dockworkers’ unions have now signed on, from Marseille to Mumbai, Hamburg to Montevideo, Melbourne to Oakland. Days ago the count stood at about 100 ports in 17 countries, and that figure doesn’t include the dozens of unions in other sectors that have pledged support. Their demand is simple: no weapons and no military cargo through their ports. Nearly everything the world ships passes through the docks, and without the workers who load and unload it, nothing moves.
In France, the main dockers’ union says the country’s ports will be 95% shut. Italy, India, Greece and Turkey face 24-hour strikes, and Morocco and Cyprus will see stoppages of up to two hours, with rallies planned in port cities around the world. In Greece, metalworkers, ship-repair workers and young people are joining the dockers, and in the US, ILWU Local 10 is striking in Oakland and San Francisco. The unions are working from the Istanbul Declaration, signed in May, with each one deciding for itself how to take part. They are also fighting for their own jobs, against cuts from automation and for contracts, raises, shorter hours and safety.
The unions point to escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East and the danger of a generalized war. They condemn Israel’s new crimes in Hebron, carried out with the backing of the US, NATO and the EU. Israel’s lockdown of the city is now in its sixth day, with more than 3,000 Palestinians displaced, according to the UN. Palestinian unions have endorsed Friday’s action.
In Italy, the fight has spilled beyond the docks. The union USB has called for a nationwide general strike. Last night, the Italian government ordered transport workers back on the job last night. USB said it would defy the order and accept the steep penalties.
The unions are calling on workers and young people everywhere to stand with the dockworkers, saying “Ports for peace and the peoples, not launching pads for war.”
I’m reporting from Calabria, Italy, and I will be in Genoa tomorrow ahead of the strike to report on the ground during the mobilzation.

Watch this.
Lubna Speitan, author of the Greens4Palestine motion “Zionism is racism”, spells out the central obscenity of our age – the grotesque inversion whereby the victims of ethnic cleansing, Apartheid and genocide must constantly fend off accusations from their tormentors that it is they who are the racists.
“We as Palestinians are being silenced and gaslit and vilified [as we] witness the annihilation, the cold-blooded murder of our families, of our people… our children burnt with phosphorus, having to endure amputations with no anaesthetic, having their limbs torn and shredded, their bodies burnt by phosphorus, being starved to death … And to have to sit here … and try to bury my feelings so I can eloquently and diplomatically shield my anger, my rage, my anguish that every Palestinian is feeling, is an insult.” /1

The Spearhead Reacts To A British Journalist on The Topic Of Foreign Aid To Nigeria
On 16 October 2026, British reporter and TV pundit Lowri Jones appeared on the UK's Channel 5 show Jeremy Vine where she delivered comments to the effect that the UK's £136 million annual aid disbursement to Nigeria is largely lost to "corruption" and that Nigeria in any case is too wealthy to need foreign aid.
In the characteristically insincere and malicious manner of British TV punditry, these comments were not intended as a sincere analysis of a purportedly broken UK foreign aid system or a neutral observation about Nigeria, but as a backhanded dig at an African country that is regularly deployed as a public scapegoat in British political spaces.
At The Spearhead, we wholeheartedly agree with Jones's postulation that the UK should permanently cease all foreign aid disbursement to Nigeria, although not for the puerile, infantile, surface-level reasons that she volunteered. @Big_Mck explains further.

Tom, that’s utter nonsense, and you know it. It’s like saying that without Facebook and Cambridge Analytica fewer people would have been able to connect and throw virtual parties.
And when you say "while they protest", you’re talking about technical experts who know you, and who understand precisely what Palantir does and are challenging the company on technical, ethical and political grounds.
As you’ll probably remember, I was Chairman of the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) when you were Minister for Digital Engagement and Civil Service Issues. You don’t have the technical background to justify presenting yourself as an authority on Palantir’s technology. Your value to Palantir is your access to government, politics, and the media. You advised the company from 2024 - while they were winning government contracts without having to go through procurement processes like everyone else.
Alex Karp has said: "Our product is used, on occasion, to kill people" and his co-founders?
So answer the constructive things people say instead of falling back to ideological statements. Everyone can see through them.
When Palantir technology contributes to a decision that results in the wrong person being killed, what do you call that?
A casualty of war?
A false positive?
Later today protesters will demand ‘No Palantir in our NHS’
While they protest, someone, somewhere will get an operation scheduled earlier, a cancer diagnosis quicker, a loved one home from hospital sooner - thanks to the software that those protesters would switch off.
Here is what you won’t hear. Trusts using the software have recorded:
• 117,000 additional operations
• 14.3 per cent reduction in discharge delays for long stay patients
• 5.6 per cent improvement in the number of people receiving a cancer diagnosis within 28 days
As a more articulate person once said: ‘certain facts, although in a sense known to be true, are inadmissible.’

Curious, I started to dig.

Let me tell you about the Overton window:
A white, middle-aged, middle-class, clergyman in the Church of England, who volunteers with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is a radical leftist seeking to bring down Western society.
That is how far it has shifted.

Replying to @OmarMontoyaSua1
Eso no es “riesgo”, eso es desgaste/uso.
Y tampoco sabes la diferencia entre riesgo e incertidumbre.
El riesgo empresarial no es riesgo sino incertidumbre. Ver trabajos de Frank H. Knight.

I've signed this statement from a small group of Labour Councillors.
Earlier today, MPs voted through a major attack on local democracy restricting the role of elected Councillors.
It makes communities bystanders in their own future.

🚨 ANGELA RAYNER OVERRIDES LOCAL COUNCIL TO FORCE THROUGH DATA CENTRE INSTEAD OF SOCIAL HOUSING!
Housing Secretary Angela Rayner has just overridden local objections to bulldoze the historic Truman Brewery in east London to build an AI data centre.
There are currently 28,000 local people on the social housing waiting list in that borough alone.
Yet out of 44 flats being built on the site, Angela Rayner approved a plan that provides just SIX social homes! 🤡
Andy Burnham and Angela Rayner constantly promise a massive council house building drive for working class people. 💷
Yet the moment developers show up with 500 million pounds, Labour happily crushes local democracy to build tech data facilities instead of homes for British families!!
