I was horrified to hear of the attack on Australian MP Helen Haines. My thoughts are with Helen and her family at this difficult time. Nobody who serves their community should face violence while doing their job. Sending Helen our full support from the UK House of Commons.

Why has @abcnews stooped to this level of cheque book journalism...
An ABC News live blog included a 1:34 video of Dr Haines being moved from an air ambulance in Melb. Filming a seriously unwell person on a stretcher from a distance and publishing it is an intrusion into one of the most private moments a person can have. I’ve lodged a complaint.

To mock someone for speaking openly about a medical condition that affects so many Australians is beneath contempt. Jacqui’s courage gives voice to thousands of women who might otherwise suffer in silence. Ridiculing her disrespects every one of them.

Statement of the Green Party of Ukraine  The Green Party of Ukraine (GPU) expresses its deep disappointment with recent statements by newly elected Australian Greens leader Senator David Shoebridge regarding the refusal to provide military assistance to Ukraine. We sincerely thank the Australian Greens for supporting humanitarian missions and calling for a complete embargo on Russian oil. At the same time, we emphasise that refusing to provide defensive weapons to a country waging a just war of liberation is a dangerous illusion that plays into the hands of the aggressor, Vladimir Putin. The Green Party of Ukraine emphasises: Dogmatic pacifism kills. As part of the global environmental movement, we share a commitment to peace. However, pacifism in the face of a ruthless invader does not stop war — it leads to occupation and the destruction of an entire nation. Ukraine is exercising its legitimate right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter. The absurdity of a “UN veto”. Senator Shoebridge’s demand that arms supplies be authorised through the UN Security Council, where Russia holds the power of veto, is detached from reality. It is equivalent to asking a criminal for permission to call the police. Russia’s war is causing massive ecocide. Russian forces deliberately destroy dams, mine millions of hectares of Ukraine’s fertile black soil, burn unique nature reserves and poison Europe’s water resources. Environmental protection is impossible without protecting the people who live in that environment. The only way to stop this ecological catastrophe is to stop the Russian army by force. Unity among the global Greens. Green parties across Europe have long recognised this threat. They are at the forefront of political forces demanding maximum military assistance for Ukraine. We call on our Australian colleagues to follow the example of their European Green counterparts. The Green Party of Ukraine welcomes the position taken by Australian Senator Sarah Hanson-Young Senator Sarah Hanson-Young and those members of the Australian Greens who have publicly spoken out in defence of Ukraine. We call on David Shoebridge to reconsider his position, listen to the voices of Ukrainian environmentalists and support the provision of defensive weapons to Ukraine. Only victory over the aggressor can restore lasting peace and security to the European continent. greenparty.ua/patsyfizm-ne-z…

Putin doesn’t want peace. Putin wants Ukraine. Enough is enough. President Trump should rescind the diesel deal with Russia and return to the strong policies of our four years in the White House; use the Lindsey Graham Sanctioning Russia Act to impose harsh sanctions on any nation purchasing Russian energy and work with our allies to ensure Ukraine has the military support it needs to repel and defeat this Russian invasion once and for all. I wish Australian leaders spoke with this conviction. #SlavaUkraïni
Ukraine’s freedom is not President Trump’s to bargain away. He is wrong to ease sanctions on Russian diesel, wrong to blame President Zelensky for prolonging Putin’s war, and wrong to undermine a nation fighting for its right to exist. Russia is the aggressor. Always has been. Reward Russia, and we should expect to see more aggression, including from other countries. We can also kiss goodbye to any just and lasting peace. This is why Conservatives have stood with Ukraine against Putin. Ukraine’s future belongs to Ukrainians. They alone have the right to choose their president, and we stand with President Zelensky because he fights not for himself, but for the survival of his country and his people.

A "devout Catholic" politician sharing a livestream of an execution is probably the most hypocritical thing I've ever heard of. #auspol
I will be sharing footage of the lawful execution of convicted terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan. @eSafetyOffice if you don’t like it, don’t watch it. But don’t you dare presume you have the authority to dictate what an elected Australian Senator can or cannot publish. You are not the arbiters of free speech.

President Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Russian fuel amidst Putin’s ongoing and brutal attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine makes no sense and is a betrayal of the legacy and leadership of the late Senator Lindsey Graham. While Ukraine fights for its survival, Putin’s war machine continues to prosecute his terrorist war on civilian populations and innocent Ukrainians are dying every day. Now, Instead of implementing the tough sanctions Lindsey Graham fought to his last breath to enact, President Trump has announced the United States is lifting sanctions on Russian energy, fueling the Putin’s war machine. As I saw firsthand in Ukraine last month, Putin is losing this war. Ukraine has fought the Russian military to a standstill and reinvented warfare with drones taking the fight into the heart of Russia. America should not be throwing a lifeline to Putin’s war machine. Now is the time to stand strong against Russian aggression as we did during the first Trump administration. Putin doesn’t want peace. Putin wants Ukraine. I have no doubt that if Putin overruns Ukraine, it will only be a matter of time until Russia’s military crosses a border that our troops will have to deal with him. America is the Leader of the Free World. For our National Security, for the security of our Allies in Europe including Ukraine, President Trump should rescind this deal immediately and return to the strong policies of our four years in the White House; impose harsh sanctions on any nation purchasing Russian energy and work with our allies to ensure Ukraine has the military support it needs to repel and defeat this Russian invasion once and for all. The Australian Greens have the most indefensible foreign policy. Ukraine is being invaded by an imperialist nuclear power. Denying the victim the ability to resist is morally wrong. David Shoebridge is an utterly unserious politician #auspol

This is not the flex the Government thinks it is. It's not that parents think our children's educators shouldn't be paid more - its the fact that at least some of the cost is going to flow straight onto us.
Replying to @JEChalmers
As part of the pay rise, centres have to limit fee increases for parents. Our changes will save the average family about $1,500 over the next two years. In our local community, it also means a well earned pay rise for at least 1200 early childhood education and care workers.

A wingnut joins a wingnut political party. Hardly a shock.

I feel like I've seen this movie before. It had a big Austrian dude in it I think...
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

This is why One Nation is not a serious polticial party. This would send inflation into overdrive, let alone the other flow on effects to peoples livelihoods. Absolutely nutty policy. #auspol

Lolz.
One Nation's David Farley has fuelled speculation about his future in Pauline Hanson’s party after accidentally walking into a private meeting of more than 20 Liberal MPs – before telling them: “I could see myself sitting here." theage.com.au/politics/feder…
