I don't really like where Twitter is at, and I'm not optimistic about where it's heading. I may re-evaluate in the future, but for now, I'm signing out. You can find me at: at JakobTheDev at infosec dot exchange

I'll be, they are blocking mastodon links now. Can't block an image of a link though 🙃

Interesting, the poll came out closer than I expected, though skewed heavily toward yes.

Something that is concerning me about how good ChatGPT and the likes are getting is how easily they can be used to plagiarise assignments. As a university instructor, how can I tell whether an assignment is the student's own work, or the work of an AI?

Standard plagiarism detection like TurnItIn or a google search won't pick up something that's spat out of ChatGPT. While the student may not be plagiarising another human's work (directly), they are also not submitting their own work which defeats the purpose of assessment.

My new personal website and blog is live. This time round I went with Hugo + Netlify, and the workflow from writing to publishing is pretty seamless. Time to start writing the posts I have on the backlog. jakobthe.dev/

I legitimately just received my copy of Superintelligence by Nick Bostrom, and now I'm seeing ChatGPT blowing up on Twitter. I wonder which parts of my job will be the first to be replaced or augmented by AI.

Spent the last few evenings working on a new personal site and some blog posts. Feels oddly nostalgic for all the late nights I spent learning to code and hack things early in my career. Hope to have something to share soon.

I didn't think that in 2022 I'd still be stoked to hear new Metallica 🤘

I've been thinking about how I use my phone and how much it distracts and interrupts what I'm doing, here and now. I've decided to delete all social media and entertainment apps, making my phone a utility device rather than an entertainment device.

Posting in part so I can share updates, but mostly as a public commitment to keep me accountable and keep those pesky distractions off of my phone.

The main reason people call it "the BoM" is because it's impossible to spell Beureau

I just asked my PT to feed me a two-piece feed before every training session. I use it as extra motivation to train harder. This is why you're overweight.
I just asked my landlord if he can increase my rent by $1,300 next year. I use it as extra motivation to grind harder. This is why you're poor.
