Murlong seeder-based mitigation trial 2019. Best treatment: On-row sowing with paired-row plus seed zone wetter x4.1 increase over control. Wetter effect maximised with low in-furrow moisture (eg on the inter-row or with shallow-till knife point) #grdcsandysoils #SA_PIRSA #EPARF

Key message: Overcoming compaction and reducing repellence at Brimpton Lake (SA) led to wheat yield increases >1.8t/ha in 2018, five years after the soil was spaded 👌🏻
Great work from @Mel_Fraser1 presented this morning.

Main effect is on-row, but positive synergies with wetters and paired row (or winged point)
Replying to @JamesBarr_ @theGRDC
so looks good. What was the third picture treatment? That’s very handy
Seeding strategies improved barley establishment in non-wetting sand, Murlong SA. Control inter-row sowing, positive responses/synergies to on/edge-row sowing, deep moisture delving (230mm),winged opener, paired-row & 13 soil wetters @TheGRDC #grdcsandysoils #EPARF @MSF_Mildura

Thanks to @UniversitySA machinery researcher Dr Jack Desbiolles & @JamesBarr_ for helping us test and video our @JohnDeere 90Series Disc Liquid Adaptors: youtu.be/I4eOB5nbNgU
Shields have been used before. They cut out ridging but allow herbicide contaminated top soil to backfill in the furrow. Result=high crop damage.
