End-of-life care must have a stronger role within social care. Today Minister @Alison_McGovern recognised this in her statement on the National Care Service. Too many spend unnecessary time in hospital at the end of life when they could be cared for at home with the right support

Today sees the return of the Terminally Ill Adults Bill to Parliament and I hope we again see a respectful and sensible debate on the key issues involved At Sue Ryder we are neutral on the subject, but we will never be neutral on the need to improve palliative & end of life care

Regardless of the outcome of today’s discussions we need a better conversation on improving the opportunity for everyone to get the care they need. It is not a simple debate about money or beds it is a considered debate about how we all work together to reform care

We need to develop new models, address fundamental blocks and ultimately do the right thing for people. For far too long the palliative care sector has been stuck in a crisis setting, this doesn’t have to be the case and hopefully today’s debate can lead to the reforms needed.

We are pleased to see the Government will be opening new community mental health hubs on high streets. These have the opportunity address significant gaps in bereavement support and it's essential that this support is built into the services they offer. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpd7…
