Congrats to @haiway and @JoshuaThePilot for running their @teslaenergy Homeβs through their paces. They proved theyβre Zombie ready π.
Night 8 off grid at House of CyberDog, and that's a full week β
My finish line was 4:30 PM. I rolled right past it and I'm still unplugged at 172 hours, #2 on the board and just one minute behind @JoshuaThePilot. Flipping the breaker back at 9 PM CT tonight β challenge officially done.
Congrats Captain β you win. Crown goes to @JoshuaThePilot π Respect π«‘
Huge thanks to @ericdmann for letting me join this challenge, and shout-out to the whole crew: @JoshuaThePilot @ericdmann @PatchesHQ @EdInTheBush β and @James_Powerwall for keeping the energy high. Made some real friends along the way. Y'all made this a blast.
The week in numbers:
π Powerwalls at 67% (27.1 of 40.5 kWh)
βοΈ 415 kWh of sunshine harvested
π 447 miles driven
β‘ 43.8 kWh of Powershare from CyBear
Model S 55%, Cybertruck 49%
Breaking news: Powerwall owners have taken over π My backup generator drives me around town, refuels on sunshine, and never once asked me to haul a gas can. Generac could never.
No rationing, AC on, life as normal. The only change was putting the pool pump to sleep for fall. 48 panels and 3 Powerwall 3s turned House of CyberDog into its own little utility, and honestly it could keep going forever. I'm ready for the zombie apocalypse π₯
Biggest lesson of the week: never take the sun, or the grid, for granted. Bonus: I learned a ton about my system's capabilities and quirks.
Fulshear is partly sunny and in the low 80s all week, so the panels aren't done showing off yet.

Day 8 off grid at House of CyberDog, and it's the last morning βοΈ
Last night the Powerwalls slid from 79% at 6 PM down to 16% just after 5 AM. Then Powershare kicked in and CyBear pushed them back up to 46% before sunrise. The truck gave everything it had and is down to 16%, the Model S is sitting at 58%, and the Powerwalls are at 41% with the panels already making 1.8 kW.
That's 43.8 kWh from Powershare this week, and we're still living normal with the AC on.
On the board it's still me and @JoshuaThePilot, one minute apart at 159 and a half hours. Sunny and 86 in Fulshear today, so the sun has the rest of the shift. My finish line is 4:30 PM for a full week, and honestly this setup could keep going.

Night 6 off grid at House of CyberDog, and the Cybertruck pulled a double shift π»βοΈ
Around 3 AM the Powerwalls hit 16% and Powershare carried the house until sunrise. Then the sun took over: the Powerwalls climbed from 26% to 91% by early afternoon, and the Cybertruck refilled from 16% to 32% on pure sunshine.
Tonight: 123 hours 32 minutes off grid, 1 minute behind the three-way tie. @ericdmann @JoshuaThePilot @EdInTheBush, enjoy sharing first place while it lasts π 4 of 5 houses still going.
π Powerwalls 53%
π» Cybertruck 31%
π Model S 26%
βοΈ 293 kWh of solar since Saturday
β‘ 16.5 kWh from Powershare so far
Clear and 57 tonight in Fulshear. Truck's at 31%, so if the Powerwalls bottom out at 3 AM again, can it carry the house to sunrise? Find out at 8 AM. Then the Houston heat is back with sunny 86s Friday and Saturday.
Who's still standing on Day 8? Drop your guess π

Day 6 off grid at House of CyberDog, and Powershare saved us again this morning π»β‘
Yesterday was cloudy and warm, so less solar came in and the AC worked hard. Around 3 AM the Powerwalls hit 16%, and the Cybertruck stepped in and fed the house, going from 30% to 17% and lifting the Powerwalls back to 36% before sunrise. 16.5 kWh of Powershare so far.
Morning check:
π Powerwalls 27% and climbing, solar already at 4.4 kW under blue skies
π» Cybertruck 17%, Model S 27%
β±οΈ 111+ hours off grid, 1 minute behind a three-way tie for first
βοΈ 232 kWh of solar since Saturday
Meanwhile Bear is getting ready for Halloween ππΆ Still living normal, AC and all.

This weekend 5 @Tesla enthusiasts embarked on a competition to put their Tesla Home energy systems to the test and see how long they could go without the grid. They organized and launched this completely on their own.
Their goal is to see how long they can go without compromising on their usual energy usage and behaviors. The systems range from smaller to bigger, include @teslaenergy Powerwall, Powershare from their vehicles, and solar. Theyβre located in: California, Idaho, Canada, Illinois, and Texas and these adventurers have already passed 41 hours.
Follow along and see how these Tesla Home energy systems perform in the real world.

Headed into night #1 of our off-grid challenge. 89% on the powerwall, I donβt expect that Iβll need to use powershare tonight, but itβs there if I do! Hopefully some sun tomorrow to keep us rolling through!
Tomorrow at 2:30 PM PT, we pull the plug on the grid. No end date.
Just the sun, @Tesla Powerwall + Powershare, and stubbornness to see how long we can last. βοΈπ

πΏ Heat pump water heater
π³ Gas stove + gas dryer
π₯ Gas furnace backup if things get tight (~500W blower vs 2.5kW+ heat pump)
π‘ All LED lighting + air purifiers in every room

It was great hosting industry leaders at Giga Texas and speaking about the past and future of Virtual Power Plants at Flex Summit this week!
VPPs are a flexible and cost-effective solution to support our grid. With nearly 2.5 GW of Powerwalls in VPP programs today, and V2G rolling out, we are just getting started...
And all of these as of Oct. 1 not only drive you, but also back up your house i a power outage with Powershare.
The @Tesla Model Y is dominating the U.S. EV market.
Tesla has sold 262,491 units YTD, only a 1% YoY decline despite zero federal EV incentives which ended in Q3 2025.
The Model Y accounts for a THIRD of all U.S. EV sales. π
