I have been waiting 24 years for my neighbor David Westerfield to be executed for the kidnapping and murder of my 7-year-old neighbor, Danielle van Dam. And now thanks to @GavinNewsom, it looks like it will never happen.
I was 13 when he abducted her from her bedroom in the middle of the night in 2002. I would never equate what I experienced with what her family suffered, but Danielle's murder devastated our whole neighborhood, and me personally. I was a sensitive kid and it was a major contributor to my mental health decline in adolescence.
In the 20 days between her disappearance and his arrest, I developed insomnia and spent those nights walking around the house checking the locks on the doors and windows. I followed the trial closely. As we learned the horrific details, I couldn't stop thinking about what she endured during the 3 days he had her.
Her body was found dumped off the side of a road 25 days after she went missing. It was too decomposed to test for sexual assault, but we all knew that's why he took her. He was also convicted of possessing child sexual abuse material found on his computer.
There was never any doubt about Westerfield's guilt. There was an abundance of forensic evidence, including her blood on his clothing and in his motorhome. In 2019, the California Supreme Court unanimously upheld his conviction and death sentence. Shortly afterward, Newsom imposed his moratorium. And now he does THIS.
California voters rejected abolishing the death penalty in both 2012 and 2016, and even voted to expedite executions. All these years, I've held on to the hope that someone would eventually take office who respected the will of California voters and would allow these sentences to be carried out.
It's especially insulting to hear Newsom go on about morality, as if he is morally superior to those of us whose lives were affected by these heinous crimes and who want to see the perpetrators brought to justice. I'm hoping the California Supreme Court can stop Westerfield's commutation.
The OPP expending resources on this shit instead of going after real criminals is enough to make me think, just maybe we really should defund the police.

Here’s a story for you. We started filming without owning the title and had to do alternates.
Taft Broadcasting owned the title Ghostbusters as part of their half-hour sitcom starring Larry Storch and Forrest Tucker (F-Troop) and a gorilla chasing ghosts. I had never heard of it. They didn’t have proton packs or Bill Murray. Columbia paid $500,000 to buy the name, but they really should have paid Dean Martin, from whom I first heard the term.
In the film Scared Stiff (1953), he and Jerry Lewis (check out his acrobatic stair descent) are in an old haunted castle, and Lizabeth Scott asks Dean: “Who are you guys?” And Dean answers: “You’ve heard of Trustbusters and Gangbusters, we’re Ghostbusters!”
For my research writing the first movie, I watched every single ‘ghost’ comedy ever made. Bowery Boys, Hope and Crosby, Abbot and Costello, Martin and Lewis all did such films.
Happy Halloween 2026.

The Tommy Robinson case is a political hit job.
This trial is the ultimate blueprint for how the system handles people who don't fall in line. You don't even have to like the guy to see exactly how the British courts just exposed themselves.
For years, Robinson has been on the front lines exposing grooming gangs, tracking mass unregulated immigration, and sounding the alarm on the erosion of British culture.
His tireless work to save the UK made him an enemy of an establishment desperate to hide the truth. Because they couldn't silence his journalism, they went after his family.
Mainstream media tracked Robinson's ex-wife and children to a holiday spot in Cyprus and slapped their faces on the front page during peak UK tensions.
That is targeted endangerment, plain and simple. But when the state protects the press, doxxing an activist's young kids is called "journalism."
When Robinson turned the tables, hiring investigators to find the editors and warning them he would make their families famous, the entire establishment panicked.
They couldn't handle the exact same energy they dish out daily. Suddenly, accountability became a "criminal threat."
The prosecution literally admitted in court that Robinson's messages contained zero actual threats of violence. Read that again. No violence. Yet, the British legal system spent weeks of court time and taxpayer money to treat this media dispute like a major national security threat.
While the UK government is actively letting violent criminals out of prison early because their cells are full, they are perfectly happy to reserve a space for a citizen journalist who pushed back against corporate bullies. The priorities are entirely backwards.
This isn't about harassment; it's about a state-backed hit job designed to make an example out of a man who loves his country.
Deport.
real talk @BradMBradford, you ran a hell of a race. it’s prob hard to not have really dark thoughts but please know you are alone and you should give into them

It's not looking good for Brad Bradford.
Toronto gets the mayor we deserve, I guess.
Here's to another 4 years of daily red-green hate marches, street corners peppered with fentanyl folders, and dangerous subways that park between stops. But hey, at least the dancing Chow memes will be fire. 🥲
After an early lead, Bradford now in 2nd with Chow surging. They must be counting my ward (I'm deep in NDP territory).
In Toronto, acceptable ID can be a phone bill, that you bring along with your voter card. The workers wouldn't even accept a government-issued photo ID that I brought with my bill and voter card, because it didn't have my address on it. So, photo ID is not required.
I've had several roommates who still get occasional mail at my address, and I received multiple voter cards in the mail.
If I were unscrupulous, it would have been extremely easy for me to use those cards to vote multiple times.
Photo ID is desperately needed for EVERY election. Our elections are simply not secure without it.
Don’t forget your ID showing your name and qualifying Toronto address when you go to vote today. 🪪

I got in from voting about an hour ago, and since when have they used those vote counting machines here? In the last (federal) election we used tear-off paper ballots put in a box.
In Toronto, at my polling station, you filled in the circle of your preferred candidate and a worker took your ballot paper and scanned your vote into a computer reader.
Maybe it's different for the municipal election, but I didn't like it.

I thought the headline was just another misnomer, but holy shit, the article itself is a wild read. Woke 1.0 never really ended.

New 30 km/h area speed limit signs will be posted at neighbourhood entry and exit points. Once you enter a signed area, the 30 km/h speed limit applies throughout the local road network until you leave that area.
Slower speeds help reduce the risk of serious collisions and make neighbourhood streets safer.
