If you want solid understanding of commands, you need solid foundations to build from.
What you see at the beginning of the video is because of what you see at the end of it.
That’s why puppyhood is SO important.
It’s also why I recorded my Penrith Puppy Development Diary. To help puppy owners understand how to lay the foundations for a brilliant dog. A dog to be proud of!!
I have met precious few dogs that would willing hold a stationary position whilst a drone hovers just centimetres from the end of their nose, for nothing more than praise!

One of the loveliest - yet at the time most confused - GSD’s that I have worked with ….
Referred due to an obsessive compulsive disorder - tail chasing - and an inability to regulate his impulses.
I did, I do, and I always will
LOVE this dog xx
My Puppy Development Diary focuses more on the relationship development - teaching the trust - building the bond with your puppy, than it does anything else.
Because THIS is what the rest is built upon.
Create a puppy with a ‘can do’ attitude, and you’ll develop a dog with a ‘want to’ attitude!
Just one of the confidence building exercises we covered at around 4 months.
The Puppy Development Diary is coming to the end of an INCREDIBLE HALF PRICE REDUCTION OFFER!!!
It’s still currently available at 50% OFF, and is completely unique.
There is no other puppy program like it!! 😊🐾🐾❤️

Looking back over the hundreds of dog training videos available in my Jamie Penrith’s Canine Classroom pulls out some great memories, and terrific learning opportunities!!
This was 2 years ago …
Creating a ‘positive’ association with a ‘negative’ command - such as ‘Leave it!’ - for example …
Notice how failures are permitted as part of the learning process in something like this?
This was a really enjoyable video to make. The full length version remains available in the Classroom!

Doesn’t take much does it?
🛑 Keep dogs on leads to protect our moors.
The Northern Pennines Moorland Group recently encountered a large group of dog walkers who refused to leash their dogs, despite polite requests from land managers.
Right now, rare red-listed birds are ground-nesting and ewes are in-lamb. Free-roaming dogs pose a severe threat to both. There is even video footage of dogs from this group actively chasing sheep.
This is unacceptable. Please respect the wildlife, support practical land management, and help protect what makes our countryside so special.
Pushing your dog training a little
Bit further each time.
A rescue dog doesn’t know they’re a rescue dog.
Treat and train them as you would any other dog and they will show you that they are capable of great things!
I thought I would test my son’s training whilst he’s away from home!!
It’s important that this isn’t seen as a set up, predictable exercise for the dog - that’s why I throw a few beforehand.
But she’s got to call off the ball regardless …
Give it a go!!
If YOUR dog was ahead of you on a walk and came across loose sheep or lambs that you hadn’t seen and didn’t expect,
wouldn’t you want your dog to CHOOSE to avoid them and head straight back to you instead? Without a word of command? So you can then put them on a lead?
The fact that society is more comfortable with dead animals than trained dogs is, to be frank, sickening.
[Before training, this dog had repeatedly hunted out sheep that the owner hadn’t seen - they were not walking on farmland at the time either]

You cannot control other people’s dogs
But you CAN control your own!
Here, Truman was 12 months old and his job was to pay attention to me, despite other dogs rushing into his face and space.
By getting the relationship right with your dog, the obedience and control becomes SO much easier.
My Puppy Development Diary and my Canine Classroom community focus HEAVILY on building the bond that we can use to deal with problems.
Real dog training in real situations.
