Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has offered One Nation MP David Farley an extra staffer on a $200,000 salary package, in an unsolicited proposal the party has rejected as an attempt to use taxpayer money to win favour with the new MP.
A letter authorising Farley to hire an additional staff member was hand-delivered to the MP's Parliament House office on Monday.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese been issued a "Please Explain" after offering a $200k staff member to David Farley outside of One Nation's unresolved staff requests, prompting accusations Labor has tried to "buy cooperation or silence".

Well, another Cardinal has come out with a, shall we say, puzzling take on evangelization.
A few years ago, Cardinal Américo Aguiar, at the time auxiliary bishop of Lisbon, said that he and the other organizers of World Youth Day in his hometown had no interest in converting anyone to Christ.
Now Cardinal Jean-Paul Vesco of Algeria has opined that “the Church is not there to convert” and “Christians should approach other religions through fraternity rather than seeking conversions.”
Excuse me, but…what?
Last time I checked, the Founder said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Sure sounds like conversion to me.
When St. Paul came to Corinth or Athens or Thessalonica, his purpose was not to listen or to form a discussion group but rather to declare an unnerving message: the euangelion (glad tidings) that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead.
So impassioned is he for this work that he says, “I have become all things to all people, that I might by all means save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:22); and “If I proclaim the gospel, this gives me no ground for boasting, for an obligation is laid on me, and woe to me if I do not proclaim the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:16)!
Moreover, the entire thrust of the Second Vatican Council was toward bringing the Light of Christ to the peoples of the world (Lumen Gentium). And this missionary élan has given rise in the last few decades to the idea of a “new evangelization,” which is to say, a fresh declaration of the Lordship of Christ.
Quite obviously, no one thinks that this work of evangelization should be done in a brow-beating, overbearing, or disrespectful manner (proselytization), but for God’s sake, let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
If I really thought that the Church does not exist to bring people to Christ, then I would resign and get an honest job.
Yesterday in the parliamentary chamber, there were a number of reflections on Helen Haines following the horrific attack on her last week.
I was particularly struck by the differences in the addresses delivered by @AlboMP & @AngusTaylorMP, as Prime Minister & Leader of the Opposition respectively.
I’ve attached my assessment of both speeches, looking at their tone, focus, emotional appeal & underlying messages.
When it comes to leadership style, I prefer Taylor’s approach & the message he delivered.
"You will not break us. You will not silence us. You will not change us." ~ Angus Taylor 26.10.2026.
He asks Australians to reflect on what we stand for & what we must defend, which goes to the very heart of who we are as a nation. Our democratic institutions, our freedoms, our respect for differences, our sense of fairness & our willingness to stand together in difficult times are not simply things we should celebrate. They are values we have a responsibility to uphold.
And inherent in those values is how we treat one another. Civility, compassion & respect are not separate from defending our democracy. They are part of what makes it worth defending.
When we understand what we stand for, we also understand how we ought to behave.
But there is another dimension to statesmanship that I believe is equally important. The consistency between what a leader says & how that leader conducts themselves.
A speech can be beautifully written, compassionate & inspiring, but its message carries considerably greater weight when those principles are reflected in the speaker’s behaviour.
And that raises a worthwhile question that goes well beyond these two speeches:
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦?
Ultimately, statesmanship is not measured by the words delivered at the parliamentary despatch box alone. It is also measured by the conduct that precedes & follows them.
And that is a standard I believe Anthony Albanese, in particular, needs to reflect upon.
Hey! @AlboMP & @AnikaWells please explain the algorithm? I just want to know who controls that & the precise rationale! By the way, my family does not need you controlling what they see: that is my job. Stick to your lane!
In typical fashion Labor have pointed the finger at @AngusTaylorMP over the Snowy 2 cost blowout. Taylor is having none of it.
From the Fin Review
Opposition Leader Angus Taylor has rejected responsibility for the cost blowouts on the Snowy Hydro 2.0 scheme, which is now estimated to cost up to $25 billion.
The Albanese government says Taylor, who was energy minister in 2022 when Labor took over the project, failed to properly plan the details.
“It was $6 billion when I started, and $6 billion when I finished – on a fixed price contract,” Taylor told reporters in Perth.
“I tell you what happened: Chris Bowen took over, and everything that bloke touches turns to custard. Absolutely everything.
“He’s not up to the job. I tell you what else he did. He got rid of the fixed price contract, and then he put the union officials in charge. Well, of course you’re going to have a blowout.”
Taylor said Bowen was “a waste of space”.
“He should go, along with the treasurer,” Taylor said. “He’s not up to the job.
“The government needs to have a long, hard look at what’s going wrong there because clearly something is going wrong, and the best way to do that is to get rid of Chris Bowen, put in a new energy minister. Even better, put in a new government.”
EVEN BETTER, PUT IN A NEW GOVERNMENT.. I could not agree more..
Although Malcolm Turnbull carries much of the responsibility for this catastrophic economic disaster, the problem has been turbo-charged by Blackout Bowen.
For Bowen to put Australian taxpayers on the hook by changing the fixed-price contract with the Italian construction firm WeBuild to a “do-and-charge” contract - was reckless financial stupidity and incompetence on a level never seen before in Australia.
No one in the private sector would ever even think of giving an open cheque book, enabling a multi-National construction giant to profit from cost overruns in the tens of billions of dollars.
WeBuild must have thought all their Christmases had come at once when dealing with such a bumbling, incompetent fool that is totally out of his depth.
And now Australian taxpayers and energy users are going to be forced to pay for Bowen‘s incompetence for decades to come.
Snowy 2.0 should be abandoned yesterday and our losses cut.
Gross idealogical incompetence.
It looks like the white elephant of Snowy 2.0 has blown out to $50 billion - and it may go higher.
Worse still, there is no certainty that the project will actually work.
And even if it does, it won’t create energy - it will destroy it.
The project needs to be abandoned. Yesterday.
BLACKOUT BOWEN HAS MISLED THE PUBLIC
Back in February, Chris Bowen told the nation that the Snowy 2.0 project “was back on track and 70% complete.”
But it wasn’t.
The only honest metric to measure the percentage of the project‘s completion is that total expenditure.
The Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) reported expenditure of A$11.1 billion as of 31 March 2026.
However, the estimated cost announced on 22 October 2026 is that the updated target cost to complete is A$22.2 billion (and more likely $25 billion).
That means back in February, when Bowen was claiming “70% complete,” the truth was that it was actually less than 50% complete.
And that doesn’t count the transmission lines, without which Snowy 2.0 can’t function.
Bowen’s misleading of the public is highly significant, as there have been constant calls from experts to abandon the project. But if it was 70% complete, then these calls can be dismissed, as the project was close to completion.
If Bowen hadn’t misled the public, if the truth was known back in February, that the project was less than 50% complete, that there was at least another $11 billion to spend - plus at least that again for the transmissions lines - the nation could have had an honest debate about the merits of continuing with this white elephant or cutting our losses and abandoning the project.
If Bowen was working in the private sector and he told his board that a project he was in charge of was “70% complete” when the truth was it was less than 50% complete, he would be sacked immediately.

HAINES DIRT FILE
For five weeks journalists have been digging dirt for Albanese on Helen Haines
They’ve been making inquiries in the local community, and probing her personal, professional and family ties to try to establish links to $1.8 Billion worth of projects in the Indi electorate
***Just imagine how much distrust this creates*** Even questioning Helen Haines’ reputation has the potential to stir up resentment in a small town. Albanese and his office were fully aware of the impact
Helen was well aware of their behaviour. She knew about the Dirt File and that she’d be targeted for speaking out about the $6 million donation to Albanese’s golf club
Haines had also referred roughly $1.35 billion in non-competitive 2022 election commitment grants to the Australian National Audit Office. She argued they overwhelmingly favoured Labor seats, which amounted to a “closed shop” corruption
She introduced the End Pork Barrelling Bill. See why Labor were after her…

It is worse than tragedy that France has enabled the conditions for its own destruction. In their political games they have counted for nothing the young lives from Allied nations that were sacrificed in two world wars defending France from invaders. They have just squandered it.

We are all paying with higher energy costs, a trillion $ deficit & a sinking economy thanks to these ludicrous decisions by the biggest bunch of amateurs & pretender politicians this country has ever seen.

Replying to @RoyaNikkhah @thetimes
“They are members of the royal family and they work.” Is this really the best argument available for people who keep telling us how exceptionally intelligent Meghan is? Because this is Key Stage 2 stuff. Having a job and being related to the King does not make you a working royal. Working royals serve the Crown within Britain’s constitutional and legal framework. Charity work isn’t a constitutional mandate. Harry’s blood isn’t blue, Meghan isn’t a Disney princess, and titles aren’t personal-brand assets. They derive their meaning from the institution, not the other way round. The media helped flatter Andrew and Fergie into confusing proximity to the Crown with personal power. Now you’re selling Harry and Meghan the same fantasy of a rival court. But freedom works both ways. Harry can be Mr Mountbatten-Windsor, free of his big brother’s oversight. King William can be free of Harry, too. Why would William tie his children’s future to a brother he cannot trust, whose conduct he cannot control, but for whom the Crown could still be held accountable? The future is Middleton-Windsor, not an ever-expanding Mountbatten-Windsor family business, and certainly not a Markle-Windsor one. Meghan was never Diana. The comparison is Fergie: not as an insult, but as a warning about what happens when the media flatters proximity to royalty into an imaginary power base. William may prefer the Zara and Peter model: family without titles, with trust and closeness mattering most. Harry can rebuild trust or choose independence. But he cannot reject the institution while demanding its privileges. If he wants freedom from King William, William and his children must be free of him, too. William’s future monarchy does not need a large extended working royal family. It needs a functioning constitutional core and a wider private family he can trust.
