Sewing the keyhole girl’s hair. I use a few different coloured threads in the locks to make them look less solid & more beautiful.
I don’t know what colour her hair was as the reference photograph is monochrome,so I’ve chosen ginger. Next step, I’ll stitch the pieces into a bob.
The numbered plan! It’s time to sew some hair for the keyhole girl portrait. I call her that, because if you look at the drawing, that’s her shape! The original photograph I’m working from is black & white, so I will have to use some artistic license on what colour her hair is.
I don’t sew at the weekend so I’ll show you something from the past. Here’s a self portrait I stitched. It includes a little jumper that both my children wore when babies. (See photo 4!) I should probably sew another self portrait, ‘cos that’s what artists do isn’t it??!!
Thanks for this great review! Seeing as storms are forecast all weekend, an indoor activity could be shopping in my Etsy store! For example, this unusual Bowie portrait is available as a card & a print, & there are tons more to choose from! janesandersart.etsy.com
To survive as an artist you’ve got to have more than one string to your bow. I’m really enjoying diversifying from the pop star portraits, to interpreting vintage family photographs. I think this portrait is going well, she’s got an interesting face.
I am starting to sew the face of the girl with the beret. She is my father’s aunt from Birmingham. I’m not sure what her name is, as that’s lost in time, but she is a fantastic subject for me. There’s a lot I can play with here, & produce a really beautiful portrait.
THANKYOU for my recent fantastic reviews! I’m a 5 star seller on Etsy, so feel free to shop in my store for professional reproductions of my stitched pieces in card or print form: janesandersart.etsy.com
Nice visit this week from my daughter @GhosttownPrints . We planned to go & see the comedian Sam Campbell last night, but it was cancelled at the last minute, so we were all dressed up with nowhere to go!
Hello everyone! Hope your Wednesday is going well! A snapshot of me stitching on my fantastic 1967 Singer Fashion Mate. Fun fact: The machine is made with cast iron parts, & weighs 2 stone 10 lbs. It’s an absolute bugger to lift up.
Here is a drawn plan for a new textile portrait. It is based on a sepia photo from my family archives. Old photographs are a rich resource for me. The people featured are often generationally lost in time. I want to breathe life back into them & present them using my…cont
Here is a portrait I enjoyed stitching. Waiting for a suitable competition to enter it into, so I can have the pleasure of paying £40 & be rejected!!
I’m so pleased that the stitched portrait of Dave Vanian has made it safely over the water. My friend Gretel is a collector of all things Damned, & owns my portraits of Rat Scabies & Captain Sensible too. It’s great to connect with interesting people who love music & pop culture
My house is too full! I’m planning a studio sale very soon. The advantage of this is:
- You can buy my original work directly from me.
-You don’t have to pay a gallery commission so the price is considerably cheaper.
-I am happy for you to buy my work in affordable..cont…
Monday. Back to stitching! I’ve been shading up Steve Harley’s face & hand colouring his eyes. This is my favourite part of creating my portraits. Next, I’ll sew him a bowler hat.
Heavy Metal + Needle Craft = this!
3 years ago I stitched a portrait of #BruceDickinson from #IronMaiden . I made him a Bishop’s Mantle, to illustrate his passion for Medieval armour. It’s surprisingly what you can create with a vintage sewing machine & a pair of pliers!
One of the best things about stitching portraits is connecting with lovely people. This is Jacqui, she owns my Bob Dylan portrait amoungst others, & she’s fucking knockout! Even though we’ve never met in person we’ve chatted on & off online for donkeys years & I consider…cont..
