It is easy to say “medicines should be cheap”. Who will invent the medicines for the diseases for which even today in India there are no remedies available? How many are killed annually in India due to non-availability of medicines, is there a count?
India remains stuck in the 1970s - jholachhaps can file a PIL, and Supreme Court will have a field day forcing the government on the back foot on pharmaceutical policy.
The world is changing: US cancer patients need lifesaving drugs - and they are now going to China for the most cutting edge medicines kffhealthnews.org/health-ind…
For decades we have had to rely on Western countries. Soon India will be begging China for medicines. Thank jholachhap activists and judges then.
Government of India is arguing that innovation is important in biotech and drug development - and Supreme Court of India is pontificating against it, forcing government to include drugs in price control orders!
The Court inserts itself into policymaking randomly, and plays to the gallery.
Then we ask, why don’t Indian pharma players invest in R&D? Here is your answer.
Any random entity (this time it is the Supreme Court) can wake up, and tell you what to do! They can create havoc in an industry.

"Why not a uniform margin cap of 16%. What is the rationale for leaving out drugs from the scope of price control orders"
Supreme Court Observations Today
-> Only when we started raising questions that the Govt woke up & reduced prices, NPPA seems defunct, acted only after we raised the issued
-> People are living in a day dream that they will some day they will benefit from DPCO (drugs prices control order)
-> Commission of corporate hospitals, provided by Pharma cos, who pays and who suffers?
-> Policy is based on only one rationale - to benefit corporates
-> Give 5 new molecules that have been developed by Indian pharma cos ? (In response to Govt's argument that innovation is as imp as availability)

Two weeks ago, Elon Musk called Mukesh Ambani “Prime Minister Ambani” because Starlink is stuck and blamed it on them.
This month, Ukraine’s military had its Starlink access throttled down for more than a week, in the middle of a war. Drone operations suffered. Imagine a state have no control over it.
My point is simpler. When a country’s communication backbone sits with a foreign private company, the switch is not in your hands.
National interest has to come before anyone’s commercial interest, even when that interest is packaged as a favour to society.
This will be a great tool for tax evasion. The government should never do that. Rather, the government should reduce taxes for all.
Layoffs are becoming common.
The least the government can do is not tax severance pay, benefits, and full and final settlement.
Individual taxpayers contribute more than corporates in the country.
This is all the more significant given that only about 2% of the population pays income tax.
Taxpayers don’t get proportional benefits from the government.
Not taxing severance pay would put more money in the hands of affected employees.
This is the least the government can do for taxpayers.

Modi Govt deals another lethal blow against drugs with Operation Trident.
Our agencies launched a barrage of simultaneous crackdowns across 38 locations in Assam, Mizoram and Manipur on 23 October, smashing an international narco-cartel. The operation revealed ₹100 crore worth of hawala transactions, froze 1,424 bank accounts, attached properties worth ₹17.82 crore, seized 500 detonators and ₹12 lakh in cash, and led to the arrest of 18 people.
The network trafficked narcotics across the borders of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh through the Death Triangle Corridor. The offensive attests to India’s Himalayan resolve to realise the mission of eradicating every drug network by 31 December 2029. India will hammer until the last nail is driven into the coffin of drug cartels.
Heartiest congratulations to the anti-narcotics team comprising central agencies, and police forces of the three states.
