Hi, I'm Javi 🤠
- 28, currently in London 🇬🇧
- from Santiago, Chile (hola!)
- first business: selling blondies at high school
- led student organisations (+2000 students) and volunteer groups at Uni
- at 23 I worked as a founder's associate without knowing what that was
- moved to Berlin, worked in biotech, fintech and legal-tech
- organised startup events, pitch competitions and community meetings for START Berlin (while working full time)
- decided to pivot my career at 26 and study data science
- first Bocconi student to collaborate with a Hospital in Milan, worked as a researcher for brain tumour grade prediction from MRIs
- built an agentic solution for environmental permits in Chile, meeting with 7/10 most important mining companies in the world (wrapped up, learnt a lot!)
- competed in 4 hackathons: finalist, lost, 1st place, 2nd place
- ran my first triathlon in July, signing up for the next one soon
Always happy to chat about literature, technology and fashion.
got an email from @weebly today letting me know that they will stop hosting my site... my first thought was, which site?? turns out that 10 years ago I created a page dedicated to Cephalopods 🤓👆🏼 (octopuses, squids, etc.)
appreciate the pre-AI grind 🐙

Are you angered when you see AI posts?
Do you get value from certain AI posts?
Maybe you're just generally opinionated about this topic.
Tell me what you think (takes 1 min to complete):

I'm fascinated by the whole friction reintroduction phenomena, especially if it's promoted by tech startups like @UseCorgi
how do you politely tell someone that they need nose surgery? I can hear this guy breathing from the other side of the room
went mildly viral on linkedin last week for posting a picture of me handing out a one-pager to a cto explaining why he should hire me… and well, I have some thoughts.
every startup out there says they want people who didn't take the ordinary path, but then their JD says “ex-consulting, PE/VC, or IB preferred.”
i don't have any of them, and it feels impossible to break through these barriers. the job search has completely dismantled my self worth and made me question every single decision I’ve taken.
why didn’t I just do one year of consulting? Instead of moving to Berlin to work for random startups.
why didn’t I choose finance? Instead of jumping around ops roles with undefined tasks.
why didn’t I do an online coding course? Instead of studying data science for two years at 26 y/o.
this is not a pity party. I believe I’ve done difficult things in the last 5 years, taken risks that my peers would never take and had quite a few pinch me moments. i would just like recruiters to see the big pictures instead of focusing on badges and labels.
anyway, still looking.

Hackathons are blowing up in London (and beyond). I saw this anecdotally, then the search traffic analytics agreed.
It's because AI has done a few things:
1. Made software faster/cheaper to make
2. Broadened the type of person interested in making software
3. Made hosting hackathons easier, because you can do them faster
So we're seeing the supply (of hackathons/venues) AND demand (of participants) expanding at the same time.
Speaking to some of the young people at hackathons, in Ramen Space and beyond, it's increasingly how smart young people are socialising, learning, finding work, having fun.
But with hackathon discovery sites, I kept running into:
1. They're incomplete (e.g. not picking up some called 'buildathons' or 'hack nights')
2. They're a bit bloated, clunky or unfocused
3. I wasn't feeling the vibes UX wise
So on Saturday I hacked together londonhackathons.com to help me keep on top of them.
Complete with:
1. Thorough, expansive hackathon discovery for the next 90 days
2. Weekly newsletter to stay on top of stuff
3. Nothing else yet, let me know what you want 🤩
I’d love to see if one of @ElevenLabs voice models can actually fool a chilean person

The ultimate LLM benchmark: Chilean Spanish.
80% of AI models fail to recognize Chilean Spanish and insist on speaking like an Argentine
80% de modelos de IA no logra reconocer el español chileno e insiste en hablar como argentino

Just saw a founder pitch a community for builders with the seriousness of someone who's curing cancer. His leading metric? 1M views on X... I can't.
Can anyone connect me with someone from the @Substack London office? :))
I may be organising my first event in London 🥹 after only 1 month of being here 🥹 with a super cool company 🥹 don't wanna jinx it but putting it out here in the universe to manifest it into reality

Silicon Valley keeps building me a husband when what I really want is a wife lol
I don't want an agent that only does one-off, random tasks that are nice but not life-changing: booking flights, making dinner reservations, or buying tickets
I want an AI wife who knows what’s on the family calendar, remembers there’s a birthday party Saturday and we haven’t bought a gift then sends me options, realizes we’re almost out of diapers and buys them, knows which bills are coming up, remembers someone needs a dentist appointment and books it, figures out what the hell we’re eating all week and what we need from the grocery store, and generally keeps track of the 47 things that need to happen before anyone else even realizes they need to happen.
So, who's building me an AI wife that carries the mental load instead of an AI husband that waits for me to give it a chore??
