Amazingly, Lutkenhaus negative-split a 52.26-51.23, producing an incredible 1.07 second margin of victory over a hard-closing Wes Ferguson in second.

The inclusion of North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament despite a weak resume (1-12 in Quad 1 games) exposes a major conflict of interest in the selection process. While UNC’s Athletic Director, who chaired the committee, claims he recused himself, his very role still exerted influence. The reality? An AD’s job security depends on their team making the tournament. Failure means backlash from donors and the university. Human behavior research shows implicit bias is unavoidable in such high-stakes decisions. To ensure fairness, no high-ranking university employee should serve on the selection committee.
