Italy: Gunmen opened fire on ’Ndrangheta figure Damiano Pepe and his wife outside their home in Calabria, killing her and leaving him seriously wounded. Damiano Pepe, 64, known as “Tripolino”, and his wife Silvana Sibarelli, 60, were shot near their home in the Lattughelle area of Cassano all’Ionio around midnight. Investigators believe at least two gunmen opened fire, possibly using a long-barrelled weapon, before escaping. Sibarelli died in the attack, while Pepe was taken to hospital in Cosenza with serious injuries. Police consider Pepe a leading figure in the Abbruzzese-Pepe clan, historically opposed to the rival Forastefano group. He was released from prison in 2019 after serving 26 years for mafia association and murder. His brother Eduardo was killed during a clan feud in 2002. Anti-mafia investigators are examining whether the latest shooting is connected to renewed violence between criminal groups in the area.
