This Star Player Cam on YouTube isn’t incentivizing me to purchase a subscription. It’s irritating & having the opposite effect. #WorldSeries2026

I never set today’s college football line-up. Sometimes balls fall when juggling.

Metamora cruised to a Class 4A opening-round victory, getting a record-setting night from Briggs Bucy, who had three catches for 137 yards and 3 TDs. “It’s big winning a playoff game" Details ⤵️ pjstar.com/story/sports/high…

Alternative: Multi-day In Classroom Integrative Essay Approach (Integrates Handwriting, Critical Thinking, Peer Review (verbalization), Essay Creation with Argumentative Claim Work on computer) - assumes for a block 4 - 85 min/class Days 1-2 ->Provide Paper Argumentative Based Outline (not the essay; organization of thoughts) include handwritten documentation: Intro Section - Intro hook - Background info - Thesis - Closing statement (discuss transition words/statements) Body - Evidence-based claims (EBC) + reasoning (paragraphs #1, #2, so on - apply APA (source, date)) - Closing sentence (discuss transition words) Conclusion - Transition phrase (In conclusion, etc…) - Call-to-Action - Final Statement Day 3 ->Peer Review & Writing Workshop of Essay on Computer - Peer Review of Outline - Writing Workshop - Build full introduction paragraph - Build thorough body *Claim #1 + students’ reasoning that supports thesis *Claim #2, repeat *Claim #3, repeat *So on *Concluding statement/transition - Build full conclusion paragraph Day 4 -> Writing workshop (continued typing) - Students continue creating draft essay - Proofreading Criteria Sub lesson - Peer review Day 5 -> Final Writing Workshop Day & Submission of Essay via Computer What does this do? 1) All work completed in class, reducing use of Ai (assumption school uses appropriate filters) 2) Inclusion of Handwritten Work (numerous necessary brain health benefits) 3) Critical thinking/reasoning by use of: a. Peer review (socialization + face-to-face communication) b. Verbal discourse of argumentative claims c. Application of claims d. Application of supportive evidence + APA 4) Inclusion of Typing Well-Thought Essay 5) Teacher + para/aide on hand to: a. Answer questions b. Practice interpersonal communication c. Monitor for plagiarism + Ai use c. Allow for true formative assessment *Not all my work; culmination of several observations + own thoughts My Takeaway: Where there is a genuine will to teach students to create meaningful work, there are ways.
Sobering article. Teachers feel they must limit writing assignments to classroom time, to combat AI cheating. The downstream cost: students aren't being asked to do longer-form writing anywhere. "Now she limits essay writing to the classroom, by hand, where students have little opportunity to develop longer, more complex arguments. The result, she admits, is that they may be unprepared for college-level writing. Even her best students’ “eyes would fall out of their head,” she said, if she asked them to write an eight-page paper. Her solution ensures that kids do their own work, but it may come at a cost. They lose the long, messy practice of learning how to compose at length and, some argue, how to think."

We live in a new age where a mistake will follow someone for the rest of their life. People grow. People change. I don’t know when we lost our ability to forgive. But the desire to define every person by their worst moment is one of the strangest side effects of social media.

I have Crohn’s disease and inflammatory arthritis. I do everything right. I eat healthy, consume very little sugar, exercise, drink a gallon of water a day, and take my medications. Biologics, methotrexate, prednisone when needed. For nearly a decade, I was mostly in remission. Then, two months ago, everything changed. Out of nowhere, I developed a fever, ended up hospitalized, and had surgery the next day. I still need another surgery. After a decade, my biologic stopped working. I'm starting a new treatment this week. And right now? I'm in pain. Some mornings I wake up and can barely walk. I can barely use my hands. Crohn's is flaring. Inflammatory arthritis is flaring. Despite doing everything "right." Because that's the reality of chronic illness. You can do everything right and still get incredibly sick. I can't take NSAIDs because of Crohn's. Yet somehow, we've reached a point where the prevailing narrative would have you believe that opioids don't help chronic pain, and conditions like mine shouldn't require them. I'm here to tell you that Crohn's HURTS. Inflammatory arthritis HURTS. And opioids absolutely CAN help. I cannot believe how far off the rails we've gone. Patients are suffering, losing access to medications that help them function, and there are STILL people pushing to restrict opioid prescribing even further. How much more do chronic pain patients have to endure? How much more access needs to be taken away? When will it EVER be enough? I will never stop fighting for patients like me. Because I know firsthand what it's like to live in a body that hurts despite doing everything you're supposed to do. And I refuse to let anyone pretend that pain isn't real or that relief doesn't matter.

When your Mayo Clinic doctor personally messages to see how you are feeling. Such an appreciated, comforting gesture. 👏🫶 Yet an oddity/nearly unheard of in central Illinois.
