This week, the EU & UK will decide the fate of depleted fish populations like Irish Sea and Celtic Sea cod and whiting. High time to prioritise their recovery, #EndOverfishing and put long-term sustainability before short-term gain. @EUCouncil @EU_MARE @DefraGovUK @DanielZeichner

Small fish, like sandeel or sprat, play a huge role in the ocean ecosystem. But they are at risk due to overfishing & #ClimateChange, threatening the sustainability of other species. #NorthEastAtlantic states must acknowledge the importance of #ForageFish for ecosystem health!

The 2023 scientific advice for #European_eel is out! Zero catches in all habitats and for all life stages. Zero other anthropogenic mortalities. Time to stop fishing and start restoring key eel habitats! Further action on pollutants is also needed.

The European Union has just set the fishing limits for EU-only stocks for 2022 in the North-East Atlantic. We regret that these limits go beyond precautionary scientific advice for several data-limited stocks, like southern hake, pollack and Kattegat cod. clientearth.org/latest/press…

@VSinkevicius we are deeply concerned that Maja Kirchner @EU_MARE continues to misrepresent the scale of #overfishing in the NE Atlantic. If you go to your fishmonger you do not have a 99% chance that the fish is from a sustainable source! Around 40% of of stocks are #overfished
