With today being Korean American Day I’m asked what it means to be Korean American. When I look at my boys wearing traditional Hanbok and besides the fact that they are unbelievably cute, it raises a lot of complex emotions that I’ve struggled with over my life…THREAD

TELL ME WHERE I’M WRONG! For years, “education reform” forces (aka school privatizers) demanded “accountability” testing, which (public education advocates argued) required educators to “teach to the test” at the expense of real learning. Those privatization forces then used those tests to argue that public schools were failing! Now in Tennessee, based on the claim that public schools are failing, those same forces want taxpayer-funded vouchers to go to private schools with NO accountability testing. In fact, those private schools often try to lure families by boasting that they don’t have to “teach to the test.” It almost seems like it was part of the plan! Thoughts!

Today, a 12-year-old middle schooler — who loves reading, her beagles and volleyball — was very real with me. She told me how it felt to be inside a Nashville school that went into an active lockdown with no clarity for 45 minutes. newschannel5.com/news/the-te…

My husband and younger son are otherwise occupied, so I’m thinking of taking my elder son out to dinner somewhere in Nashville. Anyone have anyplace to recommend?

Said high school junior* inexplicably left a Hot Wheels car in his jeans pocket. I kept hearing this awful noise from the dryer. Mystery solved. (*Yeah, I don’t know why he has a Hot Wheels car in his pocket at his age either.)

I have a high school junior. I am simultaneously scared that he won’t get into college next year and won’t get to go away and that he will go to college and leave me behind, hobbled by missing him so intensely.

Covenant parent @nthansen response to TN House GOP’s statement. Thank you, sir. You speak for so many of us, & bless your sweet children. The so-called leaders of this state are cruel bullies, who believe their job is to fight a war, not serve & protect the public.

In a free society, you should be able to make everyday mistakes like driving into the wrong driveway or knocking on the wrong door without getting killed or shot in the head. This is madness.

More guns in schools? Per @stephenwpatrick, Tennessee parents do NOT see arming teachers is the way to protect their children at school. But that’s exactly the course that the @tnhousegop seems intent on following this week.
