So they're gaming out scenarios for how they should respond to the political upheaval after an "inevitable catastrophic AI event," but not for how to prevent those catastrophic AI events to begin with?
Scoop: Top execs at Anthropic, OpenAI and other AI companies are privately gaming out scenarios for "the day after" an inevitable catastrophic AI event in the next 6-12 months. They assume Democrats in power will try -- and fail -- to shut down AI through bans, pauses or kill switches.

- Fast track to floor for bipartisan bills from committee and for bipartisan Appropriations bills
They need 2/3 of the Senate to support it and they want to do it this year. They've talked to Schumer, Thune and the White House
Daines: “More bills passed, more votes taken, less time wasted"
Merkley: “If we don’t solve this, eventually one team or the other is going to get rid of the filibuster"

The financial pain is real: Wage growth fell to 3% (y/y) in September. That's the lowest in 5 years.
Wage growth: 3%
Inflation: ~3.4%
Inflation has eaten up all wage gains for the average worker since April. Many people are having to make hard choices about what to buy and what to skimp on right now. Yes, consumption is still strong (mainly due to wealthier Americans and people dipping into savings or credit cards), but a lot of people have to think hard about every dollar they spend.
Notable: Wages only ticked up 0.1% in the month of September. That was the weakest monthly gain since December 2025.
