Nazrul Islam and Sithi Akter, two Bangladeshi nationals employed as cleaning workers for the Bin Laden Group in Mecca, became romantically involved while commuting to work. Nazrul lived in a residential villa in Hayyal Iskan, while Sithi resided in Batha Kuraysh. In May 2023, the two engaged in illicit relations in a secluded stairwell room between Gates 85 and 87 of Masjidul Haram. Nazrul had asked an Indian acquaintance to stand guard downstairs, but the friend secretly recorded the encounter on video. Later, when the Indian national attempted to make advances toward Sithi and was rejected, he leaked the video online. The video quickly went viral, prompting immediate intervention by Saudi authorities, who successfully apprehended all three individuals. The Indian national received a 20-year prison sentence for recording and distributing the footage. Nazrul Islam and Sithi Akter were detained immediately following their arrest in May 2023.
