Bro Herb Thomas has told me many, many times… “Son, God has given you 2 main responsibilities as a Pastor: Love God’s People & Preach God’s Word! Then trust Him to do the rest!” Dear Pastors, don’t let anyone distract you from that eternal task! 1 Corinthians 2:1-5- 1 And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

I am so thankful for the men that serve as elders at Capstone Church! These men love, serve and shepherd with care, diligence and grace. Most of their work is behind the scenes, early mornings and late in the evenings, before and after they work their “real jobs.” But they do their work as an elder with excellence as unto the Lord. It is an honor to call them brothers & friends. They love Jesus and they love His Church! 1 Peter 5:1-4: 1 So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: 2 shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; 3 not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

This Sunday we begin our journey through the Gospel of Mark! September 22nd marks the beginning of my 14th year as the Lead Pastor at Capstone and the Gospel of Mark will be the 32nd book for us to study together. Can’t wait to see all God has for us to learn in this beautiful Gospel!

I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 22! 22 years of marriage with my best friend! She’s easy to love!

Nobody is over-encouraged! Nobody is over-appreciated! Send the text. Make the call. Tell them you love them and are thankful for them. I bet they’ll be encouraged and thankful for the kind words!

Galatians 6:6-10: 6 Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. 7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Ephesians 4:1-6- I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

Tomorrow we start our Vision Series at Capstone Church! This is my 14th year to preach through it. I’m more excited than ever about what lies ahead for Capstone! Praying God finds us even more faithful over the next year as… We Preach Christ! We Live In Community! We Love With Compassion! We Exist For Those Not Here Yet! Last first day of school for little Clark! Praying for a great year for everyone! (@clark_burrage)

This young lady & I are about to begin our 30+ hour journey back home! We are tired but we thankful for such a fruitful time with our brothers and sisters that live on the other side of the world! Please pray for on time flights w/ no delays! We are ready to be home!

What a week of VBS at Capstone Church! So thankful for the leadership of Amy & Alexis as they lead our Kid’s Ministry! It takes an army of volunteers to pull off VBS! So thankful for a Church that is willing to do whatever it takes to help our kids know and believe that JESUS IS BETTER than anything this world has to offer!

We had a great day celebrating our High School Seniors at Capstone Church! Such a special group of young men & women. Excited to see what the Lord has in store for them! Remember JESUS IS BETTER than anything this world has to offer!

Our sweet little Hannah is done with High School! Northport Elementary -> Huntington Place Elementary -> Echols Middle -> Tuscaloosa County High Can’t wait to see what God has in store!
