Really enjoyed speaking with @OJRenick on Morning Trade Live, despite sounding terrible due to a lingering cold. Covered a lot of ground, from hot data prints and the Fed, to U.S. worker bargaining power and what it might take to finally knock this resilient economy off course
“Workers are certainly flexing their muscles.” 💪
With jobs data and the economy this strong, workers are starting to feel like they have increasing bargaining power when it comes to wages, notes @MorningConsult’s @JesseSprWheeler:
Drawing on Morning Consult’s proprietary survey data, this analysis shows that Chinese adults continue to increase their savings in 2023 over already elevated levels in 2022, leaving this year’s much-anticipated surge in Chinese consumption well short of expectations.

When asked about savings intentions for 2023 compared with 2022 — already a bumper year for savings — a whopping 46% said they plan to save more this year than last. Only 11.1% said they would save less.
The impulse to save remains entrenched among Chinese households, with our July survey showing that each additional yuan of income among savers correlates with a 0.29 yuan increase in savings.
