Many of the Birmingham-Southern College students say professors are fundamental in shaping their success, concern and care for others, and staying in AL for contributing to the state. We decided it was time to share our story.

We must save hospice. statnews.com/2022/12/14/hosp…
Recent article by @AvaKofman has sparked heated discussion w/in hospice & palliative care. Much of it defensive. My MD colleagues seem the exception. General sense among HPC docs is: Enough! Time for clinicians to take back our field.
Such a pleasure meeting @anjalifp and King Cohen at the Horizons School yesterday! What a testament she gave to advocacy and research in disability populations across the lifespan!

A6: Can we have child life & music therapy for adults please! There is power in doing crafts with your hands when in a hospital bed that is if your hands are not full of PIVs #ShortBowelSyndrome
A7: It can be mentally taxing to have frequent medical visits/hospitalizations.If you are a patient or caregiver with access to medical leave (FMLA) or leave of absence, take advantage of those if you are able to do so. #ShortBowelSyndrome
A7: If you are seen in multiple clinics, ask if a social worker or clinic scheduler can work with you to make appointments on the same day, especially if you are traveling from out-of-town. Consider having a “go bag” with you #ShortBowelSyndrome
A7: For your own quality-of-life, it’s continue plans and goals, but hold them loosely. Consider explaining to partners, co-workers and friends that your schedule may change suddenly ahead of an event so that you aren’t worried about who will step in. #ShortBowelSyndrome
A6: Regularly assess wellbeing & offer solutions. Sometimes we want a visit from Childlife or to step outside for a few minutes, but don’t know how to ask. If you (clinicians) would want it for yourself, we patients and caregivers probably do, too. #shortbowelsyndrome
A6: Patients and staff should also keep in mind that the psychological wellbeing and psychosocial challenges during hospital stays may vary not only during the course of admission, but from one admission to the next.#ShortBowelSyndrome
A6: Hospital staff should keep in mind that patients often know own needs extremely well. Engaging in active listening and response goes a long way. #ShortBowelSyndrome
A5: @OleyFoundation has a number of practical and coping articles oley.org/page/coping. For example, Tiffany Taft, PsyD provides 6 practical coping ideas for individuals living on HPEN: oley.org/page/Coping_with_HP…. #ShortBowelSyndrome
