In the growing hasidic communities of Rockland and Orange county, NY. Satmar is distributing flyers indicating for whom people should vote. Demographics is destiny.

Yiddish typewriters have a shift key. What for? Just to have a different font size basically
Hebrew has no uppercase or lowercase letters. This makes yelling in all caps VERY DIFFICULT.

Eisenkot (n) โ€“ surname, orig. North Africa From Berber aznkสทแธ (โ€œgazelle; young noble manโ€). Compare Moroccan Arabic ุฃุฒู†ูƒุถ (ส”azenkaแธ), ุฅุฒู†ูƒุงุถ (ส”izenkฤแธ) Spelling likely distorted by clerks upon immigrants' arrival in Israel due to similarity to German/Yiddish "eisen" (iron)

A YIDDISH AD about how Mike Lawlerโ€™s votes on Medicaid and food stamps affect Jewish families. The very community rejecting Cait may be the same community paying the price. Let that sink in. #NY17

No. We couldnโ€™t find a Yiddish speaking man to represent HaTzibur HaChareidi in Yiddish. And the Yiddish speaking audience wouldnโ€™t tolerate a woman coming on the Podcast. So, although she does speak Yiddish, we had her on in English. And we have another English interview with a member of the mainstream Chareidi parties, which will be released to before the election IYH.

I'm curious about those saying this Israeli woman doesn't speak Yiddish well. Is it Americans complaining about Israeli Yiddish? or are they correct? in Vienna, they similarly say that American Yiddish is done for/not Yiddish. so I'm curious

My Yiddish (perhaps indeed a large swathe of Ukrainian Yiddish or beyond?) has no word for berry or melon, but separate words for blueberries /raspberries /strawberries and watermelon /canteloupe /honeydew, respectively.
In my language and cognition class, we look at understudied langs and make connections between ling diversity and cognition. We talk a lot about color, number, animal names as subsets/supersets. Then I find this in the kids section of the local library. You love to see it
