Where does the money for salaries come from? Supply chain & energy costs have surged, so the only option is to increase prices to customers who can’t or won’t pay them.
48% of UK workers are employed by small businesses, which are already struggling. High streets are being boarded up. Job vacancies are at record lows & failing businesses will cause more jobs to be lost.
Wage increases will not suddenly cause a cash injection to small businesses because, again, people are unable or unwilling to pay the higher prices caused by wage inflation. Those wage increases will be consumed entirely by household energy bills, rents and mortgages.
This is not the answer to the problem.
The Chancellor will deliver his first Budget on Wednesday. It is reported the minimum wage will increase by nearly 4%.
This will mean so much to some of the lowest paid in our country. Under Labour work will pay.
Labour is for working people.

I used to fly for work very regularly & I do not miss it one iota. Even in comfy-class, regular flying is a chore, just less uncomfortable. The only flying I ever enjoyed was from the front seat with the spinny thing that goes "brrrr" (hopefully only stopping when I tell it to).
Nice to know you can pay full price for a business class seat on @etihad, and when you show up at the airport they can simply “downgrade” you to economy because they sold more seats than they have (not sure how that's my problem).

A horrific Russian strike in the Kharkiv region. A “shahed” struck people directly – in a park near an ordinary café. Pure atrocity. Six people were killed, including children. A little girl was killed in a stroller – her name was Angelina, she was just over a year old, born in August 2025… Her mother’s name was Inna. She died in the hospital… Another girl who was killed was 11 years old. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Another 14 people were injured, including six more children.
I am grateful to everyone who supports Ukraine under these circumstances and helps us shoot down “shaheds,” shoot down missiles, and stop Russian assaults. These are horrific photos, but behind them are shattered lives and the truth about this war. Lives must be protected. Ukraine needs air defense. You can't think about making money with Russia as long as it continues its asinine war. We ask that sanctions on Russia stay in place as long as the killings continue. We ask America to be strong, and we ask it to apply the Lindsey Graham law. We ask Europe to continue its support. We ask that everything possible be done to bring peace and guarantee security. Ukraine wants peace. It is Russia that has insisted on continuing the killing all this time. The world has enough strength to stop the war. That strength must finally be used – against the murderers.
