Just got turned away from @GiantFood at 1400 7th St NW b/c of new policy prohibiting customers w/backpacks. @MayorBowser, I thought DC promoted car free living. We provide @wmata & @DCCirculator service to this location, but now commuters headed home w/backpacks can’t stop in?
How many policies, tax preferences, etc. does DC have for @GiantFood and similar stores? If Giant and others are pushing people to drive or forego trips altogether (costing DC tax $$), are these incentives really the best use of DC’s limited resources going forward?
Also DC has policies to reduce use of single-use plastic bags. @MayorBowser, @ChmnMendelson, @brookepintodc, @RobertWhite_DC how is allowing grocery stores to ban people from bringing their own backpacks consistent with that goal?
Another month, another frustrating call with @Chase customer “service.” Once again they’ve placed a “hold” on my credit card payment, can’t tell me why, and just babble word salad about how it’s “suspicious” that I paid the card off. Feels like a scam to make me carry a balance.
I understand suspicious charges. But suspicious PAYMENTS even after they’ve received funds?!? Plus refusing to connect me to anyone who can explain this “suspicion” or how I can clear it up?!? Seems like a scam. If you’re looking for a new credit card, definitely avoid @Chase.
Gotta love corporate greed. Just got off the phone w/@Chase. I was informed that, although my credit card balance is $0 (ie, well below credit limit), w/$0 pending transactions, that I will have $0 available credit thru Jan 16 for “verification” of payment that already went thru.
Bottom line: if you want a reliable card to set up auto payments and earn rewards, DO NOT sign up for @Chase @SouthwestAir card. They cut it off randomly if you earn too many miles/your balance is too low. Result is declined payments even when you’re well below limit!
The employees on the phone seemed to see the absurdity. But their @Chase script just prompted them to say “unusual amount” (ie, not - to the penny - the same exact amount paid in a prior payment) and “verification” over and over. Nothing else they could do, they said.
What’s with the deteriorating @Free2Move service in DC? Seems like every time I try to use it there’s a problem. I say “try to” because today, and a few other times recently, when I’ve arrived at the spot indicated in the app. the car simply hasn’t been there!
Using free-floating carshare in DC used to work really well, especially before car2go left. Maybe @DDOTDC can recruit a competitor to replace @Free2Move. I know I’d sign up with them immediately!
The latest on ANC redistricting. After this amendment was adopted, the full bill passed unanimously. Bottom line for Ward 3 is that @ChmnMendelson’s last-minute changes were rejected and the Task Force/Subcommittee-approved map (with 1 minor tweak) was approved! Good news!
More thank yous…
Thank you CMs @marycheh & @tweetelissa for your leadership today in passing the Subcommittee version of the Ward 3 ANC map! Thank you also to @chenderson @CM_McDuffie @trayonwhite @BrianneKNadeau @CMRobertWhiteDC @CMCharlesAllen @CMBrookePinto @CMLewisGeorgeW4
The latest on @ChmnMendelson’s attempt to throw out the Ward 3 ANC map that passed the Redistricting Subcommittee and replace it with a map he drew by himself. Looks like @marycheh plans to fight back in today’s @councilofdc session. Should be interesting!
As expected, @marycheh is out with her amendment to reverse @ChmnMendelson’s Ward 3 redistricting proposal.
Her notice notes that his plan "may please these particular community members” who raised concerns "but will displease many others.” My story: washingtoncitypaper.com/arti…
The last-minute replacement redistricting map from @ChmnMendelson came out at about 10 PM last night. Bottom line: this map was drawn primarily for the homeowners in the Cleveland Park Citizens Assn and @ClevePkHistory. It has negative effects for others, as @CPITC notes.
The Ward 3 Task Force and @tweetelissa’s Redistricting Subcommittee produced a map that rejected these requests, effectively saying: “All Ward 3 residents are equal.” @ChmnMendelson’s map sends a different message: “Some Ward 3 residents are more equal than others.”
Here’s a snapshot of the Chairman’s proposal. A more detailed PDF is available here. What jumps out at me is the treatment of Woodley Park, ANC 3B, and AU. The new SMDs (and CP/WP balance of power) within 3C are interesting too. chairmanmendelson.com/2022/0…
