Breaking: 6 Hastings Councillors - including the council leader - have resigned from the Labour Party and set up their own independent group.
Earlier this year the council was warned it faces effective bankruptcy. This is the statement from the councillors 👇🏻

Tony left us today but he was still singing the other day at his piano and his last song was, “Because of You,” his first #1 hit.
Tony, because of you we have your songs in our heart forever. ❤

This isn't a resignation statement; it's a temper tantrum.
And its central claim is untrue.
Johnson says he was "forced out anti-democratically" by a "kangaroo court".
So let's remind ourselves of the process from which he has chosen to run away... 🧵

Since studying Nixon at Uni I’ve said he is one of the most misunderstood US Presidents. Know for Watergate and his failings, his grasp of Foreign Affairs is often forgotten. He was miles ahead of others in his generation as this clip shows - he foresaw Russia’s potential future.

Dreadful speech from #Biden on #Afghanistan
I haven’t heard anyone argue that the US and NATO allies should not be leaving, that seems widely accepted. The issue is the execution of the plan, the timing and now the results we are witnessing.
Complete failure of US leadership!
Couldn’t agree more! The situation in #Afghanishtan is on us (US, NATO, The West) now.
It didn’t have to be this way, this was a choice of our own doing.
The least we can now do to recover some moral leadership is support and welcome the refugees who will be fleeing the region
Colossal lack of leadership from @POTUS on the situation in #Afghanistan
The withdrawal of @NATO support from Afghanistan was inevitable once the US pulled out.
We need the US and The West to step up and show some moral, strategic, militarily and ethical leadership … now!
Becoming very clear that the position & policy of @NATO and Western powers on #Afghanistan is an absolute disaster.
We need an urgent rethink and to support those fighting against the Taliban insurgency. Too many lives will have been lost in vain if we don’t sort this out soon.
Brilliant thread from @TomTugendhat a politician who knows exactly what he is talking about from his own lived experiences in #Afghanistan

Powerful piece in the @thetimes from @WilliamJHague on mistake the West made on withdrawal from Afghanistan.
As @POTUS made decision months ago I said we’d regret this on many levels - Hague points this out so clearly here 👇
