There are 138 FBS schools. ESPN has spent the last 20 years cramming 1/4 of them into their own “elite” conferences A (SEC) and B (B1G), while destroying history, tradition, rivalries and regionally competitive football markets in the process. Meanwhile they tell the other 3/4 of football fans that our schools and our conferences are irrelevant. That our wins don’t matter as much as theirs do. That our losses only prove we never belonged, while their losses prove how good the competition is. They’ve systematically worked to exclude 75% of college football fans from the party for their own financial gain, and now we’re surprised people are losing interest? This is the least surprising statistic I’ve read in a long time.
