Who else feels like THE LORD OF THE RINGS provides a great outdoor playlist for Halloween night, as kiddos arrive for candy? 🧙‍♂️🐺🧙‍♂️🎃🧙‍♂️Mildly haunting.

This is one of the GOAT promises in Scripture: "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it WILL be given to you!" (James 1:5)

"Whatever our occupation, every Christian is in the business of peacebuilding and conflict transformation... We pursue peace through our individual actions, but also through the ways we live and work together." Check out my reflection for CPCT that combines my work on vocation with what it means to be a peacebuilder. ⬇️ cpct.substack.com/p/blessed-…

I once asked Dallas: “What’s the main reason why we should go to church?” I thought he’d have some deep answer about corporate worship or the importance of biblical preaching. But no. He said the main reason to go to church was to find people to bless. We can worship on our own. We can learn on our own. But we cannot bless others on our own.

Finding your calling in life isn’t always about knowing exactly where you’re going. Sometimes, it’s about being willing to move forward without having all the answers. You can spend years trying to figure out what you’re meant to do, but clarity often comes through action, reflection, and being open to possibilities you hadn’t considered.

This week my guest will be Kentucky @GovAndyBeshear. He is a principled leader and I'm really looking forward to hearing from him about what it's like to govern at a time when there is so much division in America. Among the tales of sorrow and of ruin that came down to us from the darkness of those days there are yet some in which amid weeping there is joy and under the shadow of death light that endures. — J.R.R. Tolkien

If you think the hope of Christmas began in Matthew, you missed it by 39 books. The Old Testament is full of patterns and prophecies of the Christ. Genesis prophesies joy for the world, because a promised son would bring blessing and salvation to the nations. One of the most glorious aspects of the Old Testament is how much it pictures the person and work of the Lord Jesus. This Advent season, why not spend time seeing the ways that the Old Testament is full of Christ? My book There Shone a Holy Light: Beholding Christ and Christmas in the Old Testament (published by @Christian_Focus) is a 25-day devotional book that guides you through the season of Advent. Looking for a devotional to use with your family? Wanting to hand out Advent materials to your church or small group? Consider There Shone a Holy Light. And now is the time to plan, because we’re still in the first half of October. Advent begins November 29th this year. At the Westminster Bookstore online, you can get copies (and use “CHASE” as a promo code for your total to go even lower). They’re available on Amazon too. If you know someone looking for a resource like this, I hope you’ll point them to it.

A prodigious portion of any beach vacation involves dads and granddads serving as pack mules. This is love.

Humans fell. The one-of-a-kind Human was raised. By grace through faith, we have rock-solid hope. We will rise! #Jesus #Resurrection

As I age, more of my family history emerges from the shadows. Deep flaws, abject fractures, diabolical dysfunction, pervasive frailty. I cringe and shudder in my soul. But then I recall God’s big story, including family trees like Matthew 1 and Luke 3. His grace is stronger!
