As our basic state pension breaks through the frozen personal allowance does the #triplelock become a triple lockout?
The @DWPgovuk is keeping secret the number of people who get a state pension above the personal allowance this tax year (FOI rejected; appeal in) but in 2025/26 ~2.4m old (30%) and ~732k new (13%) state pensioners got state pension alone above personal tax allowance. That ~3.1m (23%) is probably ~3.6m this tax year. And millions more in 2027/28.

A two-year pilot managed by the charity @coolearth gave 211 people in three communities in Peru a basic income of 1,032 Peruvian soles each – roughly equivalent to £2 a day. "Over the course of the trial, researchers found almost 90% of participants adopted environmentally beneficial practices, such as collective reforestation, restoration of critical water sources and reductions of forest burning." This project is the first to offer an unconditional basic income to an Indigenous community in the Amazon. theguardian.com/environment/…

The BBC isn't cutting because people have switched off. 94% of adults use it monthly, yet fewer than 80% of households hold a licence. Add new costs the govt handed it (over-75s, World Service) while the fee fell behind inflation. Upshot: the funding model is the problem.

Three airports, each with a train line adjacent, yet not one connected to a terminal. Its not that hard to join the dots up.
🚆✈️ Straight off the train and into Manchester Airport. Imagine that! Heading home from BIPA, frustrated at the slow progress on reopening the Knockmore Line. The track is already there! Connecting Belfast International Airport, as well as communities in Ballinderry & Glenavy to Lisburn & Belfast would be a game changer. Time to actually deliver! @CircleLineBT #knockmoreline #laganvalley

From The Telegraph: Donald Trump has been threatened with “sanctions” by a judge for refusing to co-operate in the defamation case he has brought against the BBC, court papers reveal. Judge Enjoliqué Lett rapped Mr Trump on Friday over his lack of co-operation with the court during the discovery process, when each side can compel the other to provide relevant evidence. The BBC’s lawyers filed five separate motions seeking the US president’s compliance and claimed Mr Trump was having to be dragged “kicking and screaming” to co-operate. According to the latest filings, submitted on Friday by Judge Lett, “the court has admonished the plaintiff for his lack of participation to no avail”. “The court expects strict compliance,” he added, “the failure of which will lead to sanctions.” Legal experts warned the president could face having his suit dismissed in the most extreme case. “Potential sanctions in civil litigation might include award of attorney’s fees and costs and even the dismissal of the plaintiff’s lawsuit,” Jason Sullivan, a lawyer, said. Dmitry Bam, a professor at the University of Maine Law School, said sanctions could be escalated if Mr Trump continued his defiance. “That could again include attorney’s fees, fines, treating certain facts as presumed established against Trump, all the way up to dismissing the case. Most judges would only take that last step as a matter of last resort. “Beyond the case, the court could hold Trump in contempt for violating a discovery order. Even the President must follow ordinary civil procedure rules,” Prof Bam added.
