My latest investigation for @Forbes charts the rise of MAGA megadonor Robert Low, owner of Kentucky Derby favorite Renegade, who built a $5 billion trucking fortune after stabbing his friend with a hunting knife and getting off on a temporary insanity plea (too many cough drops).👇

NEW @Forbes: What's one thing Republicans and Democrats can agree on? Consolidation in the playground equipment market, it seems.
The FTC and 12 state AGs are teaming up to block a proposed roll up from the PE firm run by Pistons billionaire owner Tom Gores.

New: Charlesbank Capital Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm, is investing in a newly formed services business supporting Wood Smith Henning & Berman, a Los Angeles-headquartered civil litigation defense firm, marking the buyout industry’s latest foray into the fee-rich legal sector.

Excited to announce I have a new job at @theinformation covering OpenAI!
It's one of the most interesting companies in tech right now and I'll be writing about everything from the IPO to AI safety to the wealth and influence of OpenAI's leaders.
I've really enjoyed the past year+ of writing profiles and in-depth features and also plan to continue doing these types of stories--but with a focus on the OpenAI universe.
What should I write about first? Don't hesitate to reach out with tips, ideas or just a hello: [email protected] or confidentially on signal: jemimamcevoy.24.

Who is Zach Frankel?
The question has been circulating around X over the past few days.
I wrote the first-ever profile of the secretive Ramp and Cognition investor, who is considered a cofounder of multiple of his portfolio companies -- covering everything from how he meets founders to what his unusually hands-on help consists of.
Features interviews with the likes of @eglyman, @alextaubman & @ScottWu46.
Some highlights:
-- Editing college essays for the siblings of founders
-- Air Frankel, the private jet sometimes used by his founders
-- "Capitalism with friends"
-- More insight into his $185 B + in portfolio companies
-- A $70 M Juul dividend
-- A passion for pandemics
-- Recruiting much of Team USA from the International Olympiad in Informatics
Still lots of mystery here, especially how he went from six months of interning at Founders Fund to solo investing in his 20s.

NEW: Last fall, executives at TikTok slashed the number of violations for which a TikTok advertiser could be immediately banned by more than half, from 37 down to 13, according to policy documents and four TikTok sources. That opened the floodgates to a surge in scams.

New: I spoke to current and former employees at Snap to try to make sense out of Specs, its $2,195 AR glasses, panned for being too chunky and expensive. I found Snap dealing with a familiar boogeyman: Meta and Mark Zuckerberg. forbes.com/sites/richardniev…

NEW: How Vivek Ramaswamy's Well-Timed Ohio Move Likely Saved Him $12 Million In Taxes.
The billionaire gubernatorial candidate says lower taxes will make founders flock to Ohio. Ramaswamy is one politician who puts his money where his mouth is.

New for @Forbes: The U.S. is racing toward an AI data center boom that could cost upwards of $10 trillion and surpass the railroad mania of the late 1800s by as early as 2028. Here’s where all that money is being spent on land, power, water and cement:

New: In late 2024, FBI investigators had enough evidence to launch a sweeping bribery probe that could ensnare top lawmakers, including Sen. Susan Collins. Then Trump was reelected and eviscerated the FBI and DOJ teams handling public corruption probes. propub.li/4yLLwaF
Corporate raider Carl Icahn became one of America's wealthiest people with a whopping $26 billion fortune by 2014.
Today he's worth less than $5 billion, and this year he dropped from the ranks of the Forbes 400 for the first time since Ronald Reagan was president.
Full story on Icahn's peaks and valleys, and what's next for the 90-year-old billionaire, here @Forbes 👇

1/ Yesterday we published the 45th annual Forbes 400 list of the richest Americans. America's wealthiest are wealthier than they've ever been: a collective $8 trillion, and the minimum net worth to make the cut is now a record $4.4 billion.

There is a corner of the internet I had never heard of before I started reporting this story.
It’s called the “burnerverse”: a sprawling network of anonymous college-sports accounts that can look, at first glance, like ordinary shitposting.
Then I started looking closer. And what I found was a highly coordinated network of hundreds of anon accounts, dedicated to doxxing girls and ruining their lives.
My investigation for @WIRED — including some of the men allegedly behind some of these accounts — is out now. wired.com/story/burnerverse-…

The president has spent more than 1,400 hours at his golf properties during his second term. That’s about as much time as most people spend working their full-time jobs over an eight-month span.
New story out this morning!

NEW/SCOOP: After a yearlong #FOIA battle, I finally obtained a copy of Ghislaine Maxwell's prison transfer application from BOP. But the agency redacted its justification for moving the convicted sex offender to a minimum security prison.
