This guy took and audited 3,000 ecom quizzes across 27 benchmark points...
Most of them failed for the same reasons.
Wrong first question.
Bad email gate.
Zero-party data that never touched a single flow.
That's why @ecomchasedimond and I sat down with @JonathanDrake to break down what actually separates the best quiz funnels from the rest.
We dug into his findings, walk through his scoring framework, and break down what you should rethink before launching your next quiz.

Out of 3,000+ ecommerce quizzes I've scored, exactly two have ever earned an A.
Both belong to the same brand. Neither was built on the platform you'd expect.
Here's what they did that almost nobody else does 🧵

#DTC Twitter needs less:
• I got X ROAS on the Meta funnel
• We generated X revenue over Y days
• Our email open rates increased Z% WoW
And more:
• I did X wrong and learned Y
• We are down YoY and I don’t know why—help
• Here’s what worked for us, but it only came after Z years of trying a zillion other things and may not apply to you but I hope it helps
The wins that go viral aren’t wins that will grow your business and/or lead to happiness.
And they aren’t reality for most brands.
Our aggregated data across thousands of brands at @getpostpilot tells me DTC has had a *marginal time at best* since BFCM.
I see it in the data:
• Brands down YoY since Dec
• Consumer tapped out, praying for lower interest rates
• Inflation back up to 3+%, USA with record debt
What’s your 2024 REALLY been like, DTC?
Share if you want to, I’m here for it. . .

I’ve run multiple 9-figure #DTC turnarounds.
My 6 biggest struggles as a new DTC PE-backed CEO were:
1. Cutting costs aggressively (>50%) within the first week after an acquisition
2. Having no domain expertise in whatever the company was selling. Streetwear? I wore khakis. Automotive? I Ubered everywhere.
3. Wrestling with a costly legacy tech stack and developing the confidence to bet the business on a migration.
4. Board management, especially educating financially-focused PE partners on how DTC works.
5. Balancing the board’s desire for cash flow with my heart’s desire for growth.
6. Figuring out how to grow a mature, 100M-revenue business when all channels are tapped.
🤔 Anyone reading this who has the same struggles, here's my advice:

I never did a big guru product launch.
I never dumped much money into ads.
I never paid attention to social media.

TLDR:
- Verification should cost much less
- Twitter Blue should cost much more
- Twitter has a unique opportunity to 10x subscribers

From a JTBD lens, strategy work to me is any work that unifies business/product around the customer and creates a sense of purpose. It includes interviewing customers, articulating their jobs-to-be-done at the right level, and helping the organization focus on nailing that job.
