Was curious if Johnny Newton got to talk with the team before the game, and I'm glad to hear he did. Bielema talks about the impact of Johnny's message coupled with reflecting on the outcome of each game this season beginning at the 8:20 mark of the video

Shoutout to @Jbooty88 for this great call out in real time. Look at the way Barry Lunney Jr. manipulates the defense pre-snap.
How do you help your true freshman QB out near the goal line when there isn’t much room to operate? Just scheme him up two wide open targets in the endzone.
Masterclass from BLJ.

This college football season is historically chaotic. After last week's insanity and today's wildness, here are a few tidbits:
- The 11 losses by AP Top 10 teams over the last three weeks are the most in any three-week span in AP poll history
- This is the first time since 2007 that a top-two team has lost to an unranked opponent three weeks in a row
- There are fewer than four undefeated teams left in college football this early in the season for the first time since 1977 (three undefeated teams lost in Week 8 and three remain)
Illinois volleyball beats both Maryland and Rutgers on the east coast trip this weekend.
Chris Tamas is a perfect 25-0 against the east coast schools with a 13-0 record vs Maryland and 12-0 record vs Rutgers.

Bielema won as an underdog for the 15th time at Illinois, the second-most underdog wins in the nation since he took over in 2021. Only Old Dominion has won more games as an underdog since 2021 (16).
Illinois improved to 8-2 following bye weeks under Bielema.

#illini Bret Bielema: It's not what happens, it's how you react to what happens. There's a lot that goes into winning. It's not easy. I'm proud of the way our guys responded.
Since the start of the 2023 season, Illinois football has played 45 games. I’ll now have been to 41 of those 45.
Very likely will be the most games I’ll go to in that large of a sample size.
Seen pretty much all the highs and lows of the past 4 seasons with my own two eyes. Hope to see another win today.

I don’t think this is going to help change how Western Michigan fans feel about Michigan 😂

#illini Brad Underwood: "We'll be without Mirk for a while. They put him back in a boot."
We want to make sure he heals correctly, and we want to make sure he's healthy not only for this season but for the rest of his career.

#Illini Brad Underwood says not playing, even in the opening exhibition game, wasn't an option in Jake Davis' mind.
"Jake's a tough sucker now... Shows what he is in our program which is a tough guy, and a great teammate."
He also says Davis has improved from last year. Ball-handling, leadership and conditioning stand out, Underwood said.

NEW: Oregon QB Dante Moore is OUT at Illinois.
The Ducks will also be without their leading wide receiver, Evan Stewart.
Both teams will be playing backup quarterbacks.
#Illini WR Jayshon Platt listed as probable.
Glad the player on the team with the most experience and one of the key pieces in sustaining the program's culture cares so much about consistently doing what's best for the team.
Most appearances in the starting lineup amongst active players:
Jasmine Brown-Hagger: 51
Berry Wallace: 40
Destiny Jackson: 34
Cearah Parchment: 34
Gretchen Dolan: 18
Aaliyah Guyton: 15
Jasmine Brown-Hagger has grown up fast with the #illini. Now she's an indispensable part of the rotation on a Top 25 team.
"She's kind of like the heart of the team, honestly, because we go as she goes."
"Jas means everything."

Stock up for Brady Pettigrew & Cole Kelly in the latest 2028 rankings 📈
Both are now top-20 prospects #illini
Updated and expanded national 2028 rankings are now live on the @247Sports site. 247sports.com/article/2028-b…
This is the best combined preseason rankings ever between Illinois men's and women's basketball.
This is just the fifth time the women's program has been ranked preseason and just the third time both programs have made the preseason rankings in the same season:
1997-1998: women #7, men unranked
1998-1999: women #25, men unranked
1999-2000: women #12, men #16
2023-2024: women #23, men #25
2026-2027: women #23, men #3
And this season very well could be the most combined success ever between both programs. The current best in combined achievements that should be surpassed this season:
Combined wins: 54 (2004-2005)
Combined weeks ranked: 26 (1999-2000)
Combined ranked wins: 11 (2004-2005)
Combined NCAA Tournament wins: 5 (2004-2005, 2025-2026)
