Looking forward to joining @drlauraprogram !
Has therapy become a tool for understanding ourselves—or a way to avoid taking responsibility for our lives?
Thursday, October 29th, I'm joined by Jonathan Alpert (@Jonathanalpert), author of Therapy Nation, for a candid conversation about the ways psychology can sometimes be overused, misapplied, or even weaponized.
We’ll discuss:
🤔Why are we calling everything “trauma”?
🧠How has psychology been weaponized?
😢Is self-care making us stronger—or more self-indulgent?
Do you have a question about therapy, relationships, self-diagnosis, or taking responsibility for your own growth? Call the program at 1-800-DRLAURA and join the conversation.
Many of today’s protests remind me of giant group therapy sessions that go nowhere. People show up angry, find hundreds of others who agree with them, chant for a few hours, and go home feeling better.

Happy to share my thoughts with @FoxNews
"Here's a guy who's been a liberal his entire life, and now he's talking about voting Republican. That should tell Democrats something. He's not the one who's changed his politics dramatically. He's questioning how far some people on the left want to go."

My @latimes article today:
We need to spend less time discussing our partners’ attachment styles and more time being honest with them

Hatred can make for some strange alliances. People who would ordinarily have nothing in common suddenly cheer for the same side, overlooking differences they once considered intolerable. Sometimes the only thing holding them together is a shared enemy @realDailyWire @bdomenech

As a psychotherapist, I agree with you @RubinReport
Similarly, we have more access to mental health care and spending more than ever on it, yet we've never had such high rates of mental illness.
Joe Rogan: We're spending more than ever on healthcare, and yet we're sicker than ever before. We have more money, but more chronic illness. It doesn't make sense.
It kinda does when you consider how available, and cheap, fast food has become. It also makes sense when you realize how normalized being out of shape has become.
Drinking became cool, doing drugs became cool, taking steroids became cool... doing all kinds of harmful sh*t to our bodies became a trend. And I'm guilty of it too, we all are.

I finished Therapy Nation by @JonathanAlpert last week, and found it to be very enlightening. Great read, it's a fascinating examination of the evolution of mental health therapy over the last couple of decades.

Why do young progressives excuse radical Islam? | IN FOCUS by Jonathan Alpert trib.al/fwJLL6B
Young progressives are quick to condemn sexism, homophobia, and intolerance. They demand consequences for offensive jokes, misgendering, and speech they consider hateful. Yet many find ways to defend radical Islamist movements that stand against the very rights they champion.

We keep hearing that kids today are too soft. But spend five minutes watching parents scream at referees at a youth sporting event and you might wonder who really needs to grow up.
