Micah McFadden will take over at middle linebacker for Edmunds. Expect him to wear the green dot and call plays to the defense.
Harbaugh reiterated Friday the Giants have always felt they have 3 starting ILBs with McFadden, Edmunds and Reese. McFadden has already shown he's a starting-caliber player in his career.
Giants LB Tremaine Edmonds has a torn muscle in his chest, per source. He wanted to play through it but couldn't.
Edmunds is out for the season as @DDuggan21 said.

The #Giants should have both their tackles to face Texans stud pass rushers. Good news w/LT Andrew Thomas (groin) struggling in recent weeks and RT Jermaine Eluemunor (calf) having missed Saints game.

CB Paulson Adebo looked to be moving well at practice this week. He could factor into the situation and be activated off IR.
No LB Tremaine Edmunds or CB Greg Newsome at practice. Hard to imagine them playing vs. Texans.
TE Theo Johnson (neck) worked on side. Might also miss his second straight game.
If J.J. McCarthy plays lights out, it's always a possibility. That is how this league works. It's highly unlikely but Tom Brady once took the job from a perennial Pro Bowler who was the league's highest-paid QB.
Big opportunity for J.J. McCarthy's career. Not this game but rest of this season.
Wide range of outcomes. Could be great and live up to potential. Also could go poorly. There is no guarantee he is better than Jameis.

Matt Nagy said that J.J. McCarthy's "skill set is very similar to Jaxson (Dart)." It brings back a decent percentage of the playbook.

The way it turned out: John Harbaugh spoke to Jameis Winston and J.J. McCarthy 1-on-1 on Tuesday. Told them the QB plan.
He didn't think it was necessary to make a big announcement to the team. Most players learned the news once they started to get into game plan on Wednesday.
The #Giants didn't tell the players about a quarterback decision yesterday between Jameis Winston and J.J. McCarthy. They went over film from this past week's game.
Would expect it to be addressed this morning at meetings. Practice at 1 pm.
J.J. McCarthy is the Giants starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. As a matter of fact, Harbaugh thought it was a pretty obvious move because it was the "right time."
Harbaugh met with the QBs 1-on-1 Tuesday. Made no grand announcement Wednesday. Most of the players found out as they went over the game plan.

J.J. McCarthy stayed after practice on Wednesday to get in extra work with his starting receivers, including Malik Nabers. Necessary because, as McCarthy said the other day, he had barely even thrown to Nabers prior to the Saints game.
The secondary and Giants OTs are two areas to watch closely this week. They could be without safety Jevon Holland and cornerback Greg Newsome vs. Texans. Both are in concussion protocol.

J.J. McCarthy says he's honored but "not surprised" to be the starting quarterback of the Giants. Feels he's more ready to be a starter than his time in Minnesota.
"Experience does wonders," he said.
