Love this new work by @JordanRaynor
Rightly this book concludes with a hope that it has baptized the imagination of readers. Indeed, it will! Mythical characters and superheroes are great for bedtime stories, but humans need epic stories of regular people living lives of faithfulness and fruitful impact. There are no mere humans, and too many Christians live in suspended animation due to anemic visions for life and vocation. I hope “FiveMere Christians” provokes an awakening of billions of humans to not merely live, but truly live an abundant, adventuresome life regardless of trade and context. God identifies in the Bible as the “God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,” and the 21stCentury extended edition is poised to read, “and…YOU!”

Fred Rogers, glancing over at his friend in the church pew beside him, was shocked. The pastor in the pulpit, a man in his eighties, had just wrapped up what Fred called “the most poorly crafted sermon I had ever heard in my life.”
And yet, there was his friend, wiping tears from her eyes. “He said exactly what I needed to hear,” she whispered.
That terrible sermon? Exactly what she needed to hear? Fred thought in disbelief.
Later, he realized, “The Holy Spirit was able to translate the words of that feeble sermon to speak to the need of my friend…That experience changed my life. Ever since, I’ve been able to recognize that the space between someone who is offering the best he can and someone who is in need is Holy Ground.”

It’s not often I read a book that deals with Heaven, the New Earth, or Eternal Reward when I feel like the author really “gets it.” @JordanRaynor has done his homework and really gets it. Hope you enjoy this excerpt from The Sacredness of Secular Work. epm.org/resources/2024/Mar/2…

I haven't read a book this compelling in a long time.
I'm jealous because @jordanraynor has more time to research than I do and write about something I've been thinking about, meditating on, and writing about for 45 years – the value our work has for God's Kingdom.
Much contemporary Bible teaching makes mere Christians (a CS Lewis reference) feel like second-class citizens and teaches that the only thing that matters is to share the Good News.
I've understood that to be wrong and unbiblical since reading Francis Schaeffer's theology writings many decades ago.
I've been writing about how our work and faith are integral to our co-ministry and God's kingdom on @entreworship since 2015.
Jordan's book is getting me excited about writing again. – at North Ridgeville, OH

Jesus used the ancient version of “do not disturb” in his ministry so he could focus on one person or group.

Our co-workers won't know we are Christians if we work only with excellence. They will know we are Christians if we work with excellence and love.
