Let's look at the penalty rankings for his teams during his tenure (2014-2020) 2014: 94 penalties (8th-fewest) 2015: 107 penalties (17th) 2016: 87 penalties (fewest in the NFL) 2017: 124 penalties (3rd-most) 2018: 105 penalties (13th-fewest) 2019: 111 penalties (21st, 12th-most) 2020: 80 penalties (4th-fewest)* *He was fired at 0-4, but still his culture* Besides an anomaly in 2017, O'Brien ran a tight ship for most of his time as Houston's head man. Compared to DeMeco Ryans, Ryan's units have been some of the sloppiest in the league since his hire in 2023. The numbers tell you all you need to know. Houston has had zero discipline under Ryans, and the stats back it up. Not only that, but O'Brien could look like Kyle Shanahan compared to Nick Caley. Double whammy.
