If you want to learn more about Direct Instruction from people who actually use the approach - and feel liberated and not at all unskilled 😂 - you should check out the podcast podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

That is a spectacular distortion. To be an effective DI teacher takes incredible skill.
Direct or explicit instruction seems to be widely misunderstood. It's often characterised as boring lectures with little interaction and not catering to the needs of all students. Nothing could be further from the truth. A short thread 🧵⬇️

Tell me you don’t know what you’re talking about without telling me you don’t know what you’re talking about…..
1/2 Important to understand that deskilling teachers is at the heart of Direct Instruction. Its pioneer, uber-behaviorist Sig Engelmann, said, "The teacher must be viewed as a consumer of instruction material." Also: "We don't give a damn about what the teacher thinks [or] feels"

“Assume that I can, so maybe I will!” Let’s be careful of the assumptions we make about individuals. Those very assumptions can box people in and limit their outcomes. Let’s challenge the dominant narrative and shoot for the stars! ✨

If you don’t listen to anything else today, please listen to the words of @PamForAG. Denying the humanity of trans Kentuckians is not God’s love. It is not progress. Thank you for speaking truth, Rep!

This week, my ABA students @JMUCoE demonstrated their knowledge on behavior-change procedures by developing two task analyses for the same chained task for two different learners (i.e., moderate/severe disability). Love seeing them grow as future BCBAs.
