🚨 #BreakingNews | Celebrating the 2025 #NobelPrize in Physics! 🚨🎉
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded The Nobel Prize 2025 in Physics to John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret, and John M. Martinis “for the discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling and energy quantisation in an electric circuit.”
Their groundbreaking experiments on a chip demonstrated that quantum mechanics is not just for the microscopic world. It can be observed in systems large enough to hold in your hand!
🔬 What did they achieve?
- They showed that an electrical system can tunnel through a barrier, a quantum effect previously seen only in tiny particles.
- They confirmed that the energy in these circuits is quantised, i.e. it changes only in specific steps.
- Their work paved the way for next-generation quantum technologies: cryptography, computing, and ultra-precise sensors.
🌍 We are especially delighted that this recognition comes during the UNESCO-declared International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (
#IYQ2025). It is a perfect moment to celebrate how quantum discoveries continue to transform our understanding of the universe.
