In Addis Ababa, Ugandans are networking, learning, and exploring concrete ways to turn talent and investment into progress at home. By connecting people with purpose, Uganda's Embassies can stretch opportunities beyond borders and bring our peoples' story to life on the global stage.
Addis Ababa is the diplomatic beating heart of Africa. It is a center of continental governance, bilateral trade, aviation, and institutional power. If Ugandans are thriving here as individuals, that is an achievement. But if our government and our institutions do not know who they are, where they are, or what their needs are, our collective strength remains invisible.
Diaspora communities are a powerful force for national development and socio-economic transformation, however, a powerful diaspora is only as strong as its organisation. Individual talent commands respect; organised talent builds a nation.
That's what last night was about.

The Ugandan Community in Addis hits different ... Some head organizations across Bole, others are power brokers in regional trade and cross-border enterprise. Some call shots in the African Union headquarters or United Nations agencies, drafting continental policy with Ugandan accents and Ugandan clarity. Others enter laboratories and university lecture halls, while students balance ambitious degrees with the daily challenge of life far from home. These guys don't play
When institutions come to your doorstep abroad, citizenship ceases to be an abstract concept. It becomes a working contract. Time check was 11pm on a Wednesday night. In the room we had our Embassy leadership, the @UgandaMFA , @NIRA_Ug , and the @nssfug , joined by our gracious @ics_ethiopia immigration authority, all engaging deeply and honestly with the Ugandan Diaspora.
In Addis we have a community that listens carefully, asks questions and even dispenses criticism so respectfully, you will thank them for it.
Meanwhile NIRA and NSSF have such admirable communicators. They responded to everyone that had a question. listening directly to the real barriers that Ugandans abroad face—from residency and work permits to remittances and property security, well into the night. Much gratitude to them for joining us.
In my view, it was an evening well-spent.
