The Supreme Court has amended Rule 12 effective July 2, 2026. Included among the changes is the allowance of motions for extensions for petitions for certiorari to be considered without a showing of unusual circumstances. See the updated rule: ow.ly/Vnpk50Z6jXS

Vice Chair, Presiding Judge Sara Doyle, led a meeting of the Judicial Council Standing Committee on Access to Justice yesterday. Agenda items included GLSP’s Legal Kiosk Project, developing forms for use by self-represented litigants, and modernizing court notices.
When I became a State Court Judge, Judge Studdard was someone I could count on if I had a question, and he always knew the answer! Congratulations to my dear friend on this very well-deserved award.

Early voting starts tomorrow in Georgia. I hope my fellow Georgians will vote early or on Election Day (May 19th). And when you go to the polls, please don’t forget to vote in the important, down-ballot, nonpartisan judicial elections. This is the general election for these races; and unless there are any runoffs, they’ll be decided on May 19th.
