1. I don’t often tweet about my personal life, but on 1st November, my mum Jane was hit by a large vehicle as a pedestrian in St. Louis, USA. She suffered a severe brain injury & remains in a coma in hospital. Here's Jane & me in happier times.

Democrats have to embrace the teacher mentality. Treat people like a student you love but want better for. Find something to affirm in their instinct/feeling, then say how you can help them move forward from that feeling. 1/🧵

Start all messaging with “You’re right (or kind or smart) to care about __ and I’m with you because __” Work towards toddler options. Give people two choice, maybe three for nuance. Build a relationship (common goal, task, bond) before asking people to do something. @jonfavs

Hey @CrookedMedia What about an incubator program for potential podcast hosts, influencer, etc that will lean explicitly or subtly left? Give seed money, training, and travel budget. Kind of like what @hankgreen @ComplexlyMedia does for smaller creators. @TVietor08 @jonfavs

As society requires more “parenting” from schools, I think I’m realizing that it is fundamentally impossible for students to be taught those “parent” soft skills from the person that assesses their academic progress. 🧵

Kids almost seem to respond with distrust when we teach them to try their best and don’t worry about comparing themselves to others, but then we also assign a grade that allows them to do the comparison/see that their work wasn’t a 100. 🧵

Possible solutions? More societal supports for kids and teens, more wealth distribution so that parents can spend more time with their kids, rethinking the grading system in schools, more ideas from people smarter than me.
