Don’t understand the outrage: EVERYONE can buy a network rail card for £35pa to get 1/3 off; the disability one is £20, saving £15pa. But students, seniors under 25s, and ANYONE else can buy a discount railcard. railcard.co.uk

Can we stop pretending these people are not mentally ill?
Can we stop pretending that medical abuse is 'treatment'?
Can we stop pretending that being 'trans' is normal, or healthy?

This is really important from Phillimore. The Conversion Bill could have far reaching cascading effects in the family justice system with enormous cost implications, both financial and emotional.
Vital for MPs and Peers. Family law barrister @SVPhillimore talks to the @ebswa on their podcast ‘Duty to Question’
about the impact of the Conversion Practices Bill on families, local authorities & the justice system - both in care proceedings and in the criminal court

This from Dennis is particularly brilliant. He was asked a leading question about how much conversion therapy is out there, and he turned it incredibly effectively to the post-modern "conversion therapy" that is gender medicine. There is definitely a lot of "reparative therapy" out there - and it's done by the gender clinicians who put gay teenagers on the path to chemical and/or physical castration. The framing the question suggested was that this bill is addressing a serious, existing harm, albeit perhaps the bill needs some safeguards to stop overreach. Dennis moved back onto his own framing, showing that there is a genuine, serious problem with conversion therapy, but it's not where the panel committee think it is, and this bill will make it worse.
The Conversion Practices bill “makes it a crime to say to your teenaged daughter:
I want you to love your body,
I want you to grow up to be a happy lesbian.
I DO NOT BELIEVE YOU ARE A MAN!”

“If my husband takes my phone away from me because he doesn’t want me contacting people, that’s coercive control. If I do that to my child, that maybe responsible parenting”
Well said @HJoyceGender! #BinTheBill

This afternoon our Vice Chair, Dermot Kehoe, gave evidence at the Joint Committee on the draft Conversion Practices bill.
Parents should never feel afraid to tell their child “I don’t believe you’re born in the wrong body… but I do believe you’re my gay son and I support you in that”.

Well argued Dennis
When Safeguarding = abuse
When saying no= abuse
When anything but capitulation and agreement = harm
Then the policy must be "trans activism" where harm is called care
We've seen this for 15yrs now from "trans activism" and I've had enough of it

When people genuinely think that it is better for a distressed, confused child to watch their parents be prosecuted and imprisoned, to have their lives upended (and those of any siblings) than seek neutral compassionate support, then there’s no balance or real empathy, is there?
When the response to stating that a soc services investigation for misgendering could now potentially lead to criminal charges, job loss, your [other] children being removed or your family made homeless gets responses like this, we HAVE to stop the Bill. @HJoyceGender @Jebadoo2
Bcos the total lack of understanding of what gender dysphoria is (it is NOT ’caused’ by parents), how it is complicated by autism and/or ADHD - especially in girls, that it is transitory and can be resolved with time and neutral talking therapy feeds ignorant replies like this.

& @KenMacdonaldKC on the draft Conversion Practices Bill:
“If I read the Theft Act, I have a pretty good idea of whether I’ll be committing theft or not. If I read this Act, I have no idea whether I’ll be committing an offence….”

Rolls up sleeves. I just had to see this before going to sleep:
Darcy is not a myth. He is Austen’s design.
She wrote the man who first insults Elizabeth in a crowded room and later crosses England to save the sister she loves, quietly, without seeking credit or gratitude. She wrote the letter that undoes every false impression. She wrote the walk at Pemberley where Elizabeth sees the true shape of his character for the first time. He wasn't in a ballroom, but in the place he has made into a home. She wrote the second proposal in which he offers her nothing but the proof that he has learned to value her judgment above his own pride.
That is not Stockholm syndrome. That is the romance Austen chose to tell: two people of equal wit and unequal station who must each shed a false understanding of the other before they can meet as equals. Elizabeth’s prejudice is real; Darcy’s pride is real. Austen gives neither of them an easy victory. She gives them the harder gift of change.
The man who begins as “tolerable” ends as the only person in the novel who can truly see Elizabeth’s mind and still desire her wholly. Austen did not invent him by accident. She built him, sentence by sentence, so that the moment he says he has been a selfish being all his life would land with the full weight of everything that came before. To call that arc a dangerous myth is to refuse the story she actually wrote.
I will take Austen’s Darcy who is flawed, proud, capable of growth, and finally worthy over any modern rewrite that begins by deciding he was never the hero she intended.
This adaption was written by woman who hates Mr. Darcy. She's said “Him being held up as a romantic hero is a myth which has had a really insidious ripple effect on dating culture right up until now.” That many women had a kind of Stockholm syndrome to the character. And that he was a “conceited, bullish and rude snob who, as my fellow millennials would say, needs to check his privilege.”

The Conversion Bill is draconian & poorly drafted
No parent can sit at their kitchen table, read the bill, and know if they are a criminal or not
That's not gay rights
That's a chilling effect so bitter, so deep it - will freeze distressed families solid
See you tomorrow :)
1/ Our longform response to the draft conversion practice bill is now available on our website at gaymensnetwork.co.uk/.
This bill is broad, unnecessary and offers poorer protection to gay people than existing laws. It is a bill about gender ideology, not gay rights.

Here for @TERF_Times we outline the likely potential detriments to #transwidows of the Conversion Practices Bill & also ask if there will be benefits: will our husbands have to stop pressuring us to be lesbians & also sacrifice opposing the “spousal veto”

When judges repeatedly ‘let off’ young men who rape or stab a girl (both have happened recently), it: a) signals to young men that they can get away with it; and b) tells girls there is no point in reporting as they won’t get justice anyway; just more humiliation.
Note to all Judges: Stabbing a girl 10 times is not ‘mischief’. It’s serious violence. (We should not have to point this out).
Yet another case where a Judge is apparently more focused on the wellbeing of the violent male youth, than the brutalised girl. We agree with her mother. This derisory sentence is indeed disgraceful.
Q. What sort of message does this send out to young girls- and for that matter, young boys too?
A. That young girls matter less than young boys. Even stabbed young girls.

WHAT THEY DIDN’T KNOW: They believed transitioning would bring relief. They trusted the adults & medical professionals guiding them. They thought they understood what they were choosing.
@SorenAldaco & @PrishaMosley share what they say they never understood as kids: the permanence of certain medical interventions & the physical consequences they would carry into adulthood.

If you’re a parent do pay attention to this terrible bill. The law already protects young people from coercion & harm, this bill will just criminalise loving parents worried for their, very often gay or autistic children. They plan to take away your parental rights to parent

One thing that strikes me, having spent more time with elderly people in recent years, is how much has gone into adding banks of scooters and bikes to pick up on the street, but wheelchairs to borrow when out with someone who can walk, but not far, hasn’t become a thing.
