Appellate opinions often provide guidance to other courts, attorneys and Texans facing similar legal questions.
That is why I believe a judge should clearly and thoroughly explain how the court reached its decision. That explanation is an essential part of the work.
“Farris famously earned the trust of both Democrats and Republicans while she served on the 1st Court of Appeals.”

Every case deserves the same careful preparation, whether it involves a straightforward legal issue or a complex constitutional question.
Preparation isn't optional. It's part of the responsibility Texans entrust to every appellate judge.
The Fifteenth Court of Appeals is unlike Texas's regional courts of appeals because its jurisdiction extends statewide over specific categories of cases established by law.
That includes certain appeals involving state government, constitutional questions, and the Texas Business Court.
This November, Texans will vote for justices on the Fifteenth Court of Appeals for the first time. I believe voters deserve to understand the court's role and responsibilities before they cast their ballots.
