Finally got round to seeing the 1300 copy of the Magna Carta in Faversham. I was encouraged to sign the visitors book. What else was I going to write but: 'Does Magna Carta mean nothing to you? Did she die in vain? '

Found this tiny ink drawing of a woman, in the back of Westminster College's copy of Jean Crispin's New Testament in Greek, printed in Geneva in 1553 - a little sketch from a long time ago!

It's windy out there. Faversham has been buffeted by storms this week, but spare a thought for our medieval ancestors. The Faversham custumal, written over 600 years ago (around the year 1400) records all sorts of freak weather conditions.

We have raised £15m, SAVING the #BlavatnikHonresfieldLibary! Our lead donor Sir Leonard Blavatnik gave half the total needed, ensuring success; NHMF gave its largest ever manuscript acquisition grant. A treasure trove of literary manuscripts has been SAVED FOR THE NATION!

This wax seal on a document dated 1295 is the earliest surviving seal of the Mayor and Corporation of Faversham. c. 50 mm diameter it bears the image of a one-masted ship, with its sails furled and with 'castles' at the fore and aft. Preserved with the Faversham charters.

Beg, borrow or steal a copy of the Summer 2021 issue of @BookCollectoruk for the brilliant article by Daryl Green @ilikeoldbooks "Book Exhibitions in a Virtual World". By far the best thing on the challenges of meaningfully exhibiting and displaying rare books I've ever read.
