Big news. After 12 years, I am leaving The Heartland Institute. When I first arrived at Heartland as an intern, I never dreamed that I would eventually become the Institute’s vice president of policy or have the opportunity to accomplish so much. During my time at Heartland, I published more than 1,000 articles, appeared on radio and television more than 400 times, coauthored multiple New York Times bestselling books with @GlennBeck, helped build and lead the movements opposing the Great Reset and ESG, founded and directed a public policy center, and authored dozens of national surveys with Rasmussen Reports. (One of those surveys was described by President Donald Trump as “the most important poll released in the past 20 years.") My work was featured by The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Fox News, members of Congress, many of the biggest names in media, and even the White House. Although I am deeply saddened that my time at Heartland has come to an end, I will always be grateful for the wonderful colleagues and friends I have made at the Institute. Their encouragement, friendship, and support made so much of my work possible. I will carry those relationships and countless memories with me for the rest of my life. So, what comes next? After many years of working in the free-market and pro-liberty movement, I am very happy to announce that I have launched a new public policy organization called Our Republic. Our Republic will focus primarily on the newest and most consequential issues threatening freedom in America, especially those involving emerging technologies, rapidly changing economic systems, and powerful global institutions. Many think tanks understandably devote most of their attention to policy debates that have existed for decades. Our Republic has a different primary mission: identifying the emerging threats and opportunities that could shape America’s future before they become widely understood. We will conduct groundbreaking research, uncover important developments that have received little public attention, and give everyday Americans, journalists, and lawmakers the information they need to understand the forces transforming our country. We will continue addressing longstanding policy issues of great importance, but our central focus will be the challenges that are rapidly approaching and that most Americans have never heard about. My time at Heartland may be ending, but my work defending freedom is entering an exciting new chapter. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported me over the past 12 years, and I hope you will join me in what comes next. To learn more about Our Republic or support our mission, please visit our-republic.org/

America has politics backwards. We fight endlessly over the tiniest budget items (aid to Israel, quasi wars, etc.) while depoliticizing the largest ones (senior giveaways).

Something is going horribly wrong in the Senate race in Michigan. And I am going to keep calling it out. On the one hand, the Republicans are conducting a campaign of blatant anti-Muslim fear mongering. Mike Rogers, Donald Trump and the rest of the GOP need to knock it off. Mike needs to personally and repeatedly denounce hate against Muslims. But now, at the same time, we have TWO ads from the Democratic side that ALSO traffic in hate and intolerance — causing alarm for some Black and Jewish voters. Seriously— WTF ???? The first ad was from Rebellion PAC (NOT the official Abdul El-Sayyed campaign). It suggested that Americans can’t buy groceries because the USA sends so much money to Israel. That is a lie. The USA spends less than 00.1 percent of our federal budget on support for Israel. But this ad pretends bananas cost too much because the Jewish state is bleeding us dry. TOTALLY nuts. And yet — this kind of thinking has always put Jewish lives at risk. Blaming Jews for everyone’s economic problems has a long, bloody history. Abdul did try to separate himself from the ad. He accurately noted that his campaign didn’t produce it. But the problem is: if you listen, Abdul actually NEVER DENOUNCED the CONTENT of the ad. He never said, “This ad is wrong.” He just said, “Hey, it wasn’t me.” 😬😬😬 That ad — and Abdul’s refusal to forthrightly denounce it — is scaring some Jewish Democrats in Michigan, who now are more reluctant to vote for him. In other words, that one ad alone is jeopardizing our party’s shot at taking back the U.S. Senate. BUT IT GETS WORSE! Then Abdul’s formal, official campaign put out its OWN ad — which features none other than the vile and contemptible Tucker Carlson (!!!). As you know, Tucker Carlson is a rabid, anti-Black bigot who also traffics in anti-Jewish stereotypes. He is anathema to most Black people and most Jews. No Democrat should ever celebrate the words of a white nationalist who actively undermines the safety of Black people and Jewish people. Moreover, given the importance of Black and Jewish Democrats to our victory in Michigan, the decision to include Tucker Carlson in any Democratic ad there is truly baffling. Why am I speaking out about this now? Because I want Democrats to build a winning coalition — now and into the future. Chasing off any Black or Jewish voters is a path to defeat — both in the short term and the long term. As proud Democrats, it can feel uncomfortable or risky to speak against intolerance in our own party, especially just days before a national election. It would be easier for us to let this stuff slide, shut up and close ranks. But that would make us hypocrites. For 10 years, we Democrats have watched with dismay and disgust as Republicans (who know better) have refused to challenge ANY bad ideas or bad actions in their own ranks. As a result, their party curdled into a cult — one that is now wrecking the country AND falling apart. As Democrats, we should not make the same mistake. Anti-Muslim hate is wrong. Period. Anti-Jewish hate is wrong. Period. Tucker Carlson’s white nationalism is wrong. Period. All candidates in Michigan need to say that clearly— and then pull down/denounce any ads that normalize hate or elevate hate mongers.

The Washington Post has both the Senate and gubernatorial race in Kansas—yes, KANSAS—going to the Democrats at a BIG margin. Do you buy this? I’m sorry, but this feels completely made up. The last time a Democrat won a Senate seat in Kansas was 1932! If this is right, then the 2026 election will be the worse performance by Republicans in modern history.

I have been dealing with an absolute nightmare of a situation with the @usedgov and my student loans. It has been going on for two years. And I'll be honest, it got MUCH worse under President Trump. I'm as conservative as it gets, but this has been outrageous and ridiculous. I cannot believe how bad this whole situation has been. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been experiencing this. I bet hundreds of thousands, if not millions, are in the same boat. The biggest issue is communication. I cannot get clear answers. I've been told that I was sent important communications by email, but when I explain that I don't have them, I'm told that there's nothing they can do. They cannot resend them. They cannot tell me when they were sent. They cannot tell me the email address used. They tell me that they cannot read them to me over the phone. Then there is the quality of the customer service. The last representative was one of the worst customer service representatives that I have ever spoken to. At one point, he accused me of "bullying him" for asking to speak to a supervisor. Then he refused to transfer me to his supervisor and hung up on me. I have been waiting for over a YEAR for a resolution to this problem. What the hell is going on at the Department of Education? Dealing with Fed Loan Servicing and the Education Department was always a bad experience (I've been doing it for more than a decade), but why is it getting so much worse? Why can't people get clear answers to basic questions? Why are wait times often 40 minutes or even much longer? There's no excuse for any of this, and I'm telling you, the Republicans will lose votes because of the way people with student loans are being treated. I don't know how many votes will be lost, but I know they will be. I'm not the only one whose experience has been horrific. I meet people all the time who are my age or older and feel the same way.

Reports just confirmed another slaughter in Nigeria: at least 62 dead, dozens wounded, and thousands forced to flee after armed gunmen raided a local community. Right now, 7 out of every 10 Christian martyrs on the planet die in that single country alone. One is murdered every 86 minutes. The legacy media will still chalk it up to "land disputes.” That is a lie. It is the targeted, systematic slaughter of Christians, as well as Muslims who aren’t radical enough. When ISIS burned Christians in cages, the world changed the channel. When Kabul fell, they looked away. I refuse to. This week, two brave women from my charity, @Mercury1Charity, are flying to Nigeria to help build rescue networks. It’s a humanly impossible mission, but I believe that’s where God does His best work.

Every time I rang the alarm bells on the DSA, Democrats would respond with, "Oh, they're fringe. They don't represent the party." Well, THEY DO NOW. Mainstream Democrats are actively backing their agenda. When Eric Swalwell goes on television promising "accountability" for private businesses, law firms, and universities that cooperated with the opposition, he’s issuing a direct warning: Comply with us, or face the consequences. And if you think this will stop at universities or corporate boardrooms, it won’t. This never stops at the top. It eventually comes for you. Look, our Republic isn't perfect, and we have a mountain of work to do. But if you want to preserve the Constitution and save this country, you can't sit out these midterms. You have to vote, and the choice has never been clearer.

The Pentagon just launched a program requiring every military base in the continental U.S. to be able to run independently for 90 days without the civilian grid. Meanwhile, the U.K. Prime Minister is telling citizens to prepare for upcoming "emergencies." Why? Because they know our power and water systems are vulnerable, and they aren't relying on luck anymore. But before we freak out, THIS IS A GOOD THING. It doesn't mean war is imminent. It means Trump is taking our national security seriously. He knows we have to protect our bases from any type of attack. We don't know if there's more to this, but I will say, IF you've ever been looking for a sign to start prepping... this might be it.

Pretty much. As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers. SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue. That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.

"I want to recognize [the teacher]. She gave me the opportunity to make my shot without losing my life..." "I swung the door open, and I stepped in, and I fired, and they dropped to the ground... I looked down at the gunman, and he was scrambling for his weapon. And I looked at him, and I shot him 2 more times..."

As usual, people are looking for deep reasons, but I think there isn't any for the most part and the real explanation is much more boring. There is a very high level of general dissatisfaction in France at the moment, mostly due to anemic economic growth and inflation, especially with the price of gas. In addition, Macron has been in power for almost 10 years and is very unpopular, which only adds to general dissatisfaction. The high school protests, although they were already fizzling out, have provided motivation for the left by fueling the hope that it could ride out that wave to energize its own protests. So there was a fertile ground for protests, which are pretty common in France after summer. Still, while the protests were large, they were hardly impressive by French standards. What set them apart from traditional French social movements is how violent they were. Contrary to popular mythology, French protests are not generally violent. France has a very strong protest and strike culture, but the meme about how we riots all the time is overdone. Traditionally, protests are traditionally organized by unions, which coordinate with the authorities beforehand and have a security service that takes care of troublemakers during the protest. This is why the violence always starts toward the end of the protests, after the official demonstration has disbanded and people begin to scatter, because that's when it's harder for the police to control the situation. Protests have increasingly led to violence in recent years because they have become more spontaneous and are more often organized by people on social media, but also and relatedly because increasingly far-left groups and children of immigrants opportunistically join them to cause mayhem and loot. I keep seeing a lot of people who are depicting those kids as "Islamists" and ideologically motivated actors, but I think it's a complete misreading of the situation in my opinion. This isn't an "Islamist uprising" or whatever nonsense people are talking about. Their actions are opportunistic and driven by a nihilistic culture that is very similar to what you see in Black ghettos in the US, where anti-social behavior is totally normalized, with an added Islamic veneer due to their family background. This nihilism and their family background makes them susceptible to Islamist indoctrination, which is why terrorists were almost always delinquent before they turned to religion, but most of them aren't ideologues and those who are don't loot stores. As I explained before, the police often don't intervene because they are overwhelmed and they have instructions from the government not to, because politicians are terrified that if they do a kid will be killed and they will have full-blown race riots on their hands. So what they do instead is contain the violence geographically and arrest the most violent participants later at home, when the risk that the cops will kill one of them is low, using video/photo evidence. Eventually things will fizzle out, in part because the violence will discredit the movement and actually make it easier for the government to deal with it, but this tactic is very costly since we are effectively accepting that every now and then far-left activists and immigrant thugs will just burn and loot while the police watch. The problem from the government's point of view is that, if they use repression by telling the cops to break skulls, they will kill some of the kids and this will result in a massive backlash, leading to more protests and probably even more violence. I think we need to hand out serious prison time to protesters who are caught engaging in violence to deter this kind of shit, but the government has a very limited ability to do so, because justice is independent, courts are full of left-wing judges who refuse to do that, they are already overwhelmed with cases, prisons are full and we are broke. So there isn't one single explanation, it's just a combination of factors, including random stuff that nobody could predict. The context explains why something like that *can* happen, but it doesn't explain why it happens when it does. Again it's probably random for the most part. It would take years to solve the problem even if we started now, which we won't because our politics is completely broken, because it would require getting our budget in order, implementing reasonable economic policies, fixing our immigration and justice system, etc. We are cooked to be honest.
the news will tell you that the left are protesting because "of insufficient school funding" This is questionable at best. France has a massive welfare state. Gigantic. They do not lack for public sector expenditure. - French public spending accounts for an almost incomprehensible 57.2% of GDP - the French deficit is 5.1% of GDP and the debt to GDP ratio is 115% - France spends more on education on both a relative and absolute basis than the EU average France can't meaningfully increase public spending. they are maxed out. Their 10-year bond trades at a higher yield than Italy or Greece, historical basket cases. so, it's not about public spending. France is an insanely lavish welfare state to the point of serious dysfunction. what's it about then?
