CHRISTMAS FOR KITEEZI🎄 On Saturday, 20th December, we carried out our Kiteezi Christmas Outreach, extending the impact of the documentary UGANDA’S MENTAL HEALTH CLIMATE: Episode 1 – Kiteezi, beyond awareness and into practical care. The film premiere was a call to witness, to remember, and to understand the deep psychological scars left by the Kiteezi landfill collapse. But awareness alone is not enough. This Christmas, we chose to act. Recognising that the festive season can be a peak period of stress, anxiety, and isolation for communities living with trauma and loss, we provided Christmas hampers to families featured in the film. Our aim was to remove one major stress factor, the lack of basic necessities, and offer a moment of dignity, relief, and renewed hope. While food and material support can never replace the loved ones lost, these acts of community care help ease immediate pressure and strengthen survivors as they continue the long journey toward healing and the pursuit of government-promised compensation, without financial strain becoming an added mental-health burden. 💛 Our heartfelt thanks go to the friends, and well-wishers who donated, mobilised resources, and physically came alongside SUMAYA to make these hampers possible. Your generosity reminded the Kiteezi families that they are seen, remembered, and not alone. This was not charity. This was community care. The needs in Kiteezi remain many.
