The D.C. Board of Elections says it’s asking the National Guard to avoid standing near D.C.’s ballot drop boxes, which opened today, in the wake of video footage showing them near a box in Foggy Bottom: washingtonsun.com/metro/nati…

Why are National Guard troops in Washington D.C standing in front of a ballot drop box like they’re guarding it! This seems like it would be against 18 US code 592 which makes it a federal crime for any Military officer to be at any general or special Election polling place & ballot box.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. Except it doesn’t bend on its own—it bends because we pull it in the direction of justice. What keeps me hopeful during times like these is being surrounded by people who are doing just that.

Democracy around the world is under siege, and let's be clear. No knight in shining armor is coming to save us. It's on all of us to save our countries and our rights.
"Democracy is under siege. It takes a great big village to save Democracy. *We* are that village." An important reminder from @HillaryClinton at #CGI2025 today.

After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like. yahoo.com/news/articles/let-…

Fellow riders, just sat at Fort Totten for 15 min without moving, abandon ship or take green south. Utterly ridiculous this train system cannot get their stuff together anymore.
Red Line: Trains are single tracking between NoMa-Gallaudet & Rhode Island Avenue because of a signal problem outside NoMa-Gallaudet. Some trains are offloading at strategic locations to minimize congestion. Expect delays in both directions.

It is appalling how little coverage the shootings at the CDC received. A government agency was attacked with over 180 rounds of gunfire and David Rose, a responding police officer, was killed in the line of duty. Vaccine disinformation and hostility against science have escalated to deadly violence — a threat not just to institutions, but to all of us. Dr. @celinegounder's reflections are essential reading for anyone concerned about the consequences of disinformation and the silence that often follows these tragedies: nytimes.com/2025/08/11/opini…

DC has world-class city services. We're on the job—answering calls, cutting grass, picking up trash. Kids head back to school August 25. Thank you to every DC Gov team member working daily to keep our city clean and beautiful.

Metro hasn’t worked properly for several months. Maybe we can divert Trumps attention to WMATA cuz that’s what’s broken - not MPD or our city. WMATA IS AWFUL right now.
Silver/ Orange Line: Expect delays to New Carrollton and Downtown Largo because of a train experiencing a brake problem at Court House.

Washington, DC is a beautiful city. DC is home to 700K people and welcomes millions every year. We have the #1 park system, fantastic public schools, and a tremendous public transportation system. And we are at a 30-year low in violent crime. It's important for all who live here and visit to know how beautiful our city is and how proud we are of all that we've accomplished.

The Administration’s actions are unprecedented, unnecessary, and unlawful. There is no crime emergency in the District of Columbia. Violent crime in DC reached historic 30-year lows last year, and is down another 26% so far this year. We are considering all of our options and will do what is necessary to protect the rights and safety of District residents.
