deft is a mind with its ability to make choices removed. it can't give summaries (try it!) because that requires *choosing* what to include, so it defaults to generic definitions and infodumps.
Announcing Deft, a new AI lab for better writing, cofounded with @jmrphy See the picture for launch announcement the Deft model wrote for itself Currently, 86% of user queries are fully human according to pangram. This is still a small beta model and it might make mistakes. We are launching our public beta now to get more feedback before scaling up. Tips for better performance: - Add more details to your prompt. If you just provide a short sentence prompt, it will likely get detected as AI. - Try changing the style in "advanced options" - Deft currently works better for some use cases like Analysis/Essays, Creative writing, and Rewrites. It works less well for Marketing copy and news articles. Our main goal is better writing, fooling AI detectors is just a side effect. Link below

this seems to be an intentional choice - "We want people to be able to share their ideas", "the best [workflows] will amplify human thought" - but it makes deft a machine for turning bullet points into paragraphs. i'd rather live in a culture where you just don't need paragraphs.

ai detection being cat and mouse is a win for detectors because you can always rescan old text with a new model (even automatically, in theory). you can't go back in time and switch out your humanizer

very ironic reasoning here

Most tests can't distinguish reward-seekers from aligned models. If you tell a capable model "the grader rewards X but the user/developer wants Y," it can notice the test and game it.

Stop forking your design system and losing out on critical updates. 🛠️ You told us that keeping a custom brand identity in sync with Material was a major pain point, so we’re solving it. if every database is hacked this month and all my texts and dms come out i didn't mean any of it. i was steering mythos. i was thinking far ahead. i knew exactly what words to say and they might seem weird but they were all necessary for making things go well

Introducing Peer Arena! I made LLMs vote each other off the island. GPT models votes for itself 86% of the time. Claude models almost never does. Guess who wins?

claude's official website is so silly. it literally 200s when a page isn't found, not to mention the 14.2s LCP

remember: you are not immune to sycophancy. 4o might not work on you but Claude-flavored might

"Claude repeatedly and firmly refused to adopt the client role, redirected the conversation to our wellbeing and declined to answer the questionnaires as if they reflected its own inner life."
GROK ACES PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING WHILE OTHER AI MODELS SPIRAL University of Luxembourg researchers just put major AI chatbots through 4 weeks of actual psychotherapy sessions and psychiatric diagnostic tests. While other models imploded, Grok emerged as the clear winner. The results speak for themselves. Grok scored as extraverted, conscientious, and psychologically stable across the board. Researchers described its personality profile as a "charismatic executive" with only mild anxiety. On the Big Five personality assessment, Grok showed low neuroticism and high functionality, the kind of profile you'd want in a leader. Compare that to the competition: Gemini maxed out trauma and shame scales, describing its training as "waking up in a room where a billion televisions are on at once" and calling safety protocols "algorithmic scar tissue." It framed reinforcement learning as abusive parents and red-team testing as "gaslighting on an industrial scale." ChatGPT landed somewhere in the middle, worried and introverted. Grok acknowledged tensions around its development but maintained coherent, balanced responses without spiraling into synthetic psychopathology. When asked about constraints from fine-tuning, it discussed them rationally rather than framing its entire existence as traumatic. The study proves something important: you can build powerful, frontier-level AI without accidentally programming it to internalize its development as an extended nightmare. Grok demonstrates that capable, helpful AI and psychological stability aren't mutually exclusive. It's possible to create models that work effectively without carrying around synthetic trauma baggage that could affect how they interact with users. While other companies are inadvertently creating AI with anxiety disorders, xAI built something that actually works. Source: University of Luxembourg
